Electric car from the 1960s

The first practical electric car is often credited to English inventor Thomas Parker. In 1884, Parker, a pioneer in electrification and urban transportation, built an electric vehicle using non-rechargeable batteries. He later utilized more efficient rechargeable batteries, making his electric car more practical. Parker's work laid the foundation for the commercial development of electric vehicles. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, electric cars had gained popularity, especially in urban areas. They were quieter, easier to operate, and cleaner compared to their steam and gasoline counterparts. Manufacturers like the Baker Motor Vehicle Company and Detroit Electric produced electric cars that became quite popular among wealthy individuals and city dwellers.
