In 1988 Pinochet held a referendum on whether his Government should continue. All Presidents of Chile since then publicly claim they voted ‘no’ in that referendum. Chile’s new president is the first to openly admit he voted ‘yes’, he even featured in a pro-Pinochet ad at the time
