A 31-year-old Hindu woman from Indore was subjected to forced religious conversion, physical abuse, multiple marriages and halala over a period of 13 years after being allegedly trapped by a man she met on Facebook. According to the woman’s complaint, a Muslim man initially befriended her on social media while posing as a Hindu. She alleged that after gaining her trust, he called her to Uttar Pradesh, where she was allegedly held captive. The woman claimed that she was forcibly converted and later married off to a Maulana nearly 25 years older than her. She alleged that she faced repeated physical abuse whenever she protested and was assaulted for not offering namaz. According to her allegations, the Maulana later gave her triple talaq, after which she was allegedly forced to undergo halala and married again. She claimed that over the years, she went through five nikahs and underwent halala twice. The woman alleged that her life was “destroyed” during the ordeal and said she endured years of exploitation and abuse.
