This is a fabricated video. Good Samaritan laws protect bystanders who try, in good faith, to help even if they have no training. An experienced professional will more often than not fracture ribs in elderly patients when doing CPR properly. It can’t be avoided when doing compressions properly. I broke a lot of ribs during my years as a paramedic but saved a few lives in the process. You can be sued but the chances of being held liable if you are acting in good faith, trying to save a life, are next to nil. If you see someone that needs help, don’t hesitate. Help them. Cardiac arrest without intervention is always fatal. You can survive broken ribs. Whoever posted this video should be shamed.

As someone who has a BLS certification through AHA, proper CPR can 100% results in rib fractures. This lawsuit, if true, is ridiculous and proves the lack of knowledge the family has in proper medicine. The force required, regardless of placement, can cause broken bones.
