🚨Luis de la Fuente was asked on the Ballon d’Or race between Lionel Messi, Lamine Yamal and Rodri. 🎙️ Reporter: “Luis, there’s growing debate about the Ballon d’Or. Some believe Lionel Messi deserves it after leading Argentina at the World Cup, while others believe Lamine Yamal or Rodri should win. What’s your view?” 🗣️ Luis de la Fuente: “For me, giving the Ballon d’Or to Lionel Messi based only on the World Cup would be unfair to what other players have achieved over the entire season. “Messi has had an outstanding World Cup, and nobody can deny his influence for Argentina. But the Ballon d’Or has always been about evaluating a player’s performances across the season, not just one tournament. “When I look at Lamine Yamal, I see a player who has performed consistently at the highest level. He competed in the Champions League, won La Liga, lifted multiple trophies with his club, and also won the European Championship. That is an exceptional season. “Then you have Rodri, who has been one of the most complete and consistent midfielders in world football. His influence every week for club and country has been enormous. “If you ask me who deserves the Ballon d’Or, I believe the discussion should be between Lamine Yamal and Rodri. They have delivered across an entire campaign in different competitions. “Lionel Messi will always be one of the greatest players in football history, and what he’s doing at his age deserves enormous respect. But if we’re judging this award on the full season, my opinion is that Lamine Yamal and Rodri have stronger cases.”

Messi deserved the Golden Ball 🐐 Giving Rodri the World Cup Golden Ball over Messi wasn’t deserved — One of the most baffling decisions I've ever witnessed at a World Cup. Rodri is the heartbeat of Spain’s system, no doubt about it. But you can’t hand him the tournament’s best player award based mainly on his performances in the semifinal and final. Many people debated the controversies surrounding Argentina throughout this World Cup, but FIFA's decision to give the Golden Ball to Rodri instead of Lionel Messi was beyond belief. Messi deserved every individual award this tournament had to offer. He delivered world-class performances in every match for Argentina. If the Golden Ball isn't awarded to the best player of the tournament, then what is its purpose? Players give everything on the pitch to earn that recognition. Rodri is an outstanding footballer, but based on this World Cup alone, there is no comparison between him and Messi. The statistics speak for themselves. The performances speak for themselves. That's why this is one of the most baffling decisions I've ever witnessed at a World Cup. There’s also a huge difference in the strength of the two national teams, yet that wasn’t properly taken into account. Neither was individual performance. This isn’t about statistics alone. Rodri is incredibly important and influential to his team. Messi is just as essential—arguably even more so. Not simply because of goals or assists, but because of everything he means to his team. Both are the heart of their sides, but Messi had the added edge of consistently deciding games. Since the award ultimately went to a player from the finalists, the comparison is straightforward. I honestly don’t know what they were thinking by giving it to Rodri. For me, Lionel Messi deserved the World Cup Golden Ball without a second thought.
