The Global Peace Summit has the potential to bring Ukraine closer to lasting and just peace. One of the most important steps on this path is the return of captives and deportees, including children who were abducted by Russia in the occupied part of Ukraine and taken away from their homeland. Russia is killing, ruining and trying to destroy our future. But we are stronger. We must do everything in our power to ensure that every Ukrainian child is at home, happy, with their family, and safe. The world has enough strength and leadership to help and to restore justice by bringing Ukrainians, both children and adults, home. @bkb_ua

Those Ukrainian children were separated from their families, forcibly taken to russia and Belarus, given up for adoption, deprived of the right to speak their native language and brought up in the ideology of ruscism - which equates to hatred of everything Ukrainian. Valya, like all these children, can only dream of reuniting with her parents, and returning to Ukraine. She can see her escape and her return to Ukraine only in her dreams. Earlier today, we visited the victims of the Oriire LGA kidnapping incident where they are receiving treatment in Ibadan. We will continue to provide the necessary support needed for their full recovery and reunite them with their families. We also remember civilians and military personnel who lost their lives during this process, our administration will ensure that they did not die in vain. May their souls rest in peace and may God continue to comfort their families.

These are thousands of our children who have become victims of illegal deportation, forced displacement, and detention in temporarily occupied territories. They are enduring horrific trials that should never have been part of any childhood. We are fighting for each and every one of them. In 2024, under the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, Ukraine managed to bring 449 children back home. We are grateful to everyone around the world who supports and contributes to this work. I am grateful to the EU and every country taking part in our Coalition to bring back Ukrainian children who were abducted by Russia. It matters that we share a common purpose – to investigate these abductions, to return the children, and to help them rebuild normal lives with their families. This is not something abstract. Every case is the story of a real child – and a real family. By saving these children, we give a chance not only to them – we give a chance to our countries, so that the values that define our lives do not turn to dust. And this raises a fundamental question: how did it become possible for Russians to simply abduct tens of thousands of children, hide them, tear them away from their families, and then teach them to hate the very country they were abducted from? When a country becomes such an evil force that does not stop even at destroying the lives of children – this cannot be treated as just a regional problem, something happening “somewhere far away.” If a country commits such crimes against children, it means it is capable of any crime.
