President Zelenskyy has arrived in Syria and met with President Ahmed al-Sharaa. They reached agreements on exchanging military and security experience. Relations between Syria and Russia have changed drastically as the Russian troops withdrew from the country and Ukraine intensified our diplomatic efforts in the region. In early 2026, Russia startrf a large-scale withdrawal of its units from Syria, including from the base in Al-Qamishli in the northeast of the country. The new Syrian authorities have announced their intention to convert former Russian military facilities into training centers for their own army.
