On April 5, 2020, in the snowy heights of Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir, at around 10,000 feet, five Indian Army commandos from the 4 PARA SF unit—Paratrooper Chhatrapal Singh, Havildar Devendra Singh, Subedar Sanjiv Kumar, Paratrooper Amit Kumar, and Paratrooper Bal Krishan—engaged in a deadly operation known as "Operation Randori Behak." The mission was to thwart a major infiltration attempt by five Pakistani terrorists across the Line of Control in the Keran sector. Air-dropped by helicopters into the rugged terrain, the commandos tracked the terrorists through the snow, spotting their footsteps in the low-visibility conditions of the Zurhama forest. The encounter quickly escalated into close-quarter combat at point-blank range, with some soldiers falling into a steep valley where the terrorists were hiding. In a fierce hand-to-hand battle, the commandos successfully eliminated all five terrorists but tragically lost their own lives in the process, showcasing immense bravery and sacrifice in one of the deadliest operations along the Line of Control that year.
