In modern language, we think the word “perfect” means “to perform without errors.” Thankfully, this is not what it means in the scriptural context. Thanks to God’s grace, we can be perfected in Him.

My 3 P’s of Perfection. 1. Perfection is a process, not a destination. What we define as perfect today will mature/evolve 2.Perfection is one’s perception. My perfect is not yours 3.Perfection is realized in the blending of the imperfect parts. Like family, food, & structures.

I also think the word “as” your Father in Heaven is perfect is very instructive. That word “as” has at least two meanings: 1. “Like”, or “the same as” (E.g. To be perfect like God is perfect) And also 2. “In the same way” or “by the same process.” (E.g. To be perfect in the same way that Heavenly Father attained perfection.”) So Christ may have been hinting at the process that His Father experienced to become perfect. Line upon line as we do. That realization gives me so much hope that the process is something that we can have faith will eventually result in a complete and finished state. But not to expect that perfection will occur in all things in this lifetime.
