Christopher Nolan did a great interview with Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie about their show “The Curse” in 2024. Fielder talks about his creative process and so much of it comes through in trailer for Elizabeth Holmes doc: ▫️Fielder says he “stumbles into ideas he gets excited about” without a master plan and “just piles things on and it grows” (for the Holmes doc, he had an agreement with A24 to scrap the project even after years of shooting if he didn’t think there was a film) ▫️setting the tone is the top priority, even moreso than narrative (“when you have the tone right, everything falls into place”) ▫️the musical score is crucial in setting the tone (the sound doesn’t even have to match action on the scene, it can float above just setting mood) ▫️he doesn’t want to rush scenes; let them develop to the point where audience is expecting any action to be consequential and it builds the tension (inspired by old detective TV show Colombo) *** Full interview here (Nolan really is a Fielder Stan):
