The Active Protection System (APS) of France's future CAPINT main battle tank is capable of countering Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) rounds! 🛡️💥 During an interview with Military Machine Fr, a KNDS expert explained: "To counter the number one enemy of modern tanks—the APFSDS (kinetic energy penetrator/dart projectile)—which flies at incredible speeds up to 1,700 m/s, leaving less than a second of reaction time if fired from 2 km away, we integrated a brand-new defense technology in the black area above the front hull. It launches interceptor projectiles to directly impact and disrupt the incoming long-rod penetrator. This impact instantly alters the projectile’s flight attitude, forcing it to tilt, which drastically reduces its penetration capability. It can even snap or shatter it mid-air, ensuring the fragments strike the hull without causing any catastrophic internal behind-armor damage. It acts like an airborne protective barrier colliding with the penetrator." Sounds remarkably similar to Ukraine's "Zaslon" (Barrier) Active Protection System.

Video on attempts to develop an anti-drone Active Protection System (APS) in the Russian Armed Forces. The APS architecture with a stationary defeat system and the chosen off-the-shelf solutions, such as canister charges for "Tucha," in my opinion, will not ensure success in this endeavor. The idea of manually firing canister rounds is not even worth considering against FPV drones, no matter how many cameras are installed. Moreover, even if FPV drones could miraculously be shot down, this offers zero help against "Baba Yaga" drones.On the other hand, building an APS on a fast, stabilized rotating platform with a rational defeat system is not feasible due to the lack of commercially available solutions for such a platform, which must also withstand significant repeated recoil. Meanwhile, private entities or the military have access to existing software and hardware solutions for drone detection systems, which design bureaus will never use, as they prefer to start from scratch with 10-year R&D projects to maximize profits.

The recent war in southern Lebanon has proven the weaknesses of the Trophy active protection system (APS) installed on the armored vehicles and tanks of the IDF. This footage released by the Hezbollah terrorist organization clearly shows how one of their FPV drones hit a Merkava Mk4 main battle tank of the IDF exactly next to its APS, and you can see that Trophy did not activate to prevent the drone from hitting it. This is not the only Merkava that has been hit during this recent war. We have seen several other cases, whether released by the Hezbollah terrorist organization or others.

Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) has developed ‘Bhargavastra’, a new low-cost, indigenous Counter Drone System designed to neutralize drone swarms. Successfully tested on May 13, 2025, the system uses unguided micro rockets (with a 20m lethal radius) and guided micro-missiles as a dual-layer defence, capable of engaging threats up to 2.5 km away and operating in diverse terrains, including high altitudes. It features advanced C4I systems, radar detection up to 10 km, and EO/IR sensors for precise targeting.
