Today the Hyderabad Traffic Police organised the Meeting on Safety of School going children at Ravindra Bharathi as the academic year has started . The Collector and heads of the RTA, RTC , Education, also attended and all gave useful instructions and suggestions to the 750 school managements present and also some school children. I highlighted the need to employ two or more private security guards as Traffic Marshals by the schools to manage traffic outside and inside the school for a length of 200 metres on the left and right . They will be trained by the Traffic police and work under their supervision. I encouraged parents to use car pooling apps to send their children safely rather than stuffing them into autos , CCTV s need to be installed all over the school and outside also , pan shops and other small shops near schools need to be removed as they are peddling narcotics in some places . It was told very clearly that anything happening to any student will be the responsibility of the school management and they will have to face criminal action if they don’t invest in student safety . Requested the traffic police to see if they can revive the school traffic commandos programme which I had organised as traffic Addl-CP 15 years ago.

Today I inspected Govt. Primary School Masood, which is just 20 mins away from Chandigarh. Yet, there’s no washroom, no boundary wall, no proper classroom, no furniture, & students were not able to do even basic Maths or English. School had a projector which was never used & two computer systems that have never opened. And it was a “Smart School” of previous governments but only on papers! Suspended both the teachers. Two new teachers have been deployed in their place & a grant of Rs 50 Lakhs has also been issued for the school.

A middle school teacher with more than 25 years in the classroom is now on leave after a student’s cellphone video allegedly captured him doing something shocking just moments before students walked in. I totally agree with Hon. Zambaali on this matter. The Ministry of Education needs to come out and address this issue once and for all. This has been happening for many years, yet learners need to have their school breaks respected. Breaks give students an opportunity to pause from their studies, rest and reset. They also need time to bond with their families, explore other interests and learn things outside the classroom. Why should learners be kept in school during a period that is specifically meant to be a break, all in the name of coaching? There needs to be a proper balance between academic performance and the wellbeing of learners.

Florida’s Orange County school district banned cell phones for the entire school day, even during breaks. So kids can’t use them during class and they can't use them during breaks. They have to keep phones in the backpacks at all times. There’s a "We see it, we take it" policy. "And on the first day, more than 100 phones were confiscated from students. In the following days, confiscations dropped dramatically. This school district has seen a drop in bullying and a rise in student engagement. Teachers report that there has been "newfound life" injected into the classroom. Students are more talkative and more collaborative." ACP TX sticks with our communities and sees the job through. This weekend in Sandy Creek, Leander, we helped a local community organizer and her husband construct seven raised beds for a friend of theirs whose seasoning business had been literally washed away during the devastating 4th of July flooding in Central Texas. With so many families needing all the help they can get as they go through the heartbreaking process of clearing out and even demolishing their own homes, many have had to put their own businesses & revenue streams on hold, including the women you see in the video. Rebuilding had been put on the back burner for the foreseeable future, but our friend Amanda had an idea that she needed our help with. While her friend was attending the funeral of a mother and her two children who had perished in the flood, we worked with Amanda to surprise the community member by constructing and assembling new beds right where they used to be. With the new beds, she and her husband can finally reopen their seasoning business. The joy on her face warmed our hearts and reminded us of what it means to serve the people. When the state hangs you out to dry, the American Communist Party will have your back.
