In Texas, Hood County commissioner Dave Eagle said he would not approve a proposal from Amazon Web Services that sought up to 90% in property tax rebates for 30 years. The project is moving forward in a neighboring county, where AWS received the rebate it sought.

In a statement, Amazon said, in part, “We ultimately decided to not build in Hood County… where we do invest, we work with local leaders to create jobs and generate revenue for public services…"

The “jobs” are temporary for 4yrs then only 10 remain to run thr facility. While driving up electricity,water bills for the residents while sucking the area of resources. Massive data centers are extremely dangerous to the environment and the people

Great decision by the hood county commissioner, I grew up in that area so it’s good to know they’re resisting.

Wtf, these rich companies are destroying our environment and they want us to pay for the infrastructure that provides them with electricity, water and roads? Wake up America!

Yes - liberals will always stand against tax revenues and job creation. Great idea. When your county is going bankrupt, remember this.

This data center story on 60 Minutes is just another one-sided hit job on American business. Isn’t this what CBS is known for? Can CBS say that not a single employee uses AI? What hypocrites.

"This county needs more tax revenue." Famous dying words of great cities and towns.

@amyfromatown We don’t care, sycophancy isn’t journalism.

They will continue to vote Red. Live with your decisions.
@WestTxStringer The progressive Justice Brandeis coined the term “laboratories of democracy.” We see it herein. People should relax about what’s outside of their jurisdiction. P.S. every unbuilt server farm is a win for China.
