International students (Africa, Uzbekistan, Afganistan etc) studying in Gujarat University @gujuni1949 claim they were beaten up, Stones thrown at them and at their hostel (A-Block), Vehicles destroyed while they were offering Ramazan Taraweeh at a place inside the hostel A-Block allotted to them by the Hostel administration. A few students are injured and currently admitted in SVP hospital. You can hear the mob chanting religious slogans while pelting stones at the students inside the hostel. In this video, A Student of Gujarat University from inside their hostel can be heard saying, "Police let them go, Police let them go! They are running away! They broke everything, They are going away. The police aren't arresting them. This is a democratic country, this is a secular country."

A Student from Afghanistan while speaking to a journalist from @NewsCapitalGJ says, 15 Muslim students were praying Namaz inside the Hostal premise in A-Block. Three persons came and asked them not to offer Namaz. After completing their prayers, When the students asked what's their problem with Namaz, The goons asked them to chant religious slogans and left, After sometime, They came back with with at least 200-250 people, pelted stones at them, they were carrying knife and sticks, They pelted stones, broke our bikes, laptops, phones, AC, sound system etc.. Many students are injured but 5-6 students are admitted in hospital, 2 from Africa, 1 from Bangladesh, 1 from Srilanka, 1 from Uzbekistan and 1 from Afghanistan". When asked if they complained to police, The student responds, "No we did not, The police was already here, Thry allowed the goons to go, They did not stop them, Whats the use of complaining, We are not safe here, We request Gujarat University to shift us to a safe place." #GujaratUniversity

Here is a video of a Student slapping a Bajrang Dal member after finishing his prayers. The students claim, before this incident, Bajrang dal members stood behind the students offering Namaz disturbing them with slogans while they were praying.

No. These students were offering Taraweeh Namaz at around 10 PM inside the Hostel compound of A-Block which has 75 foreign students staying in the hostel. They claim that they have been offering Namaz during Ramzan for the past 2-3 years with permission. How are Bajrang Dal members allowed to enter Gujarat University late at night? Who gave them permission to enter a hostel and check on what the students are doing?

Statement by Commissioner of Police GS Malik. He says, FIR is registered on the complaint of Hostel Security. 25 names have been added in the FIR. They identified outsiders who had come to the hostel and will be arrested soon.

The student said the outsiders asked them the reason for performing prayers. After the prayer was over, our students were agitated and pushed the person who barged in and slapped them. He did this only because we didn’t understand the slogan they were chanting. It was a reaction to an outsider’s derogatory move. Another student, Ahmed Waris, from Afghanistan said three students barged in and forced them to chant religious slogans. “By the time we completed Namaz, people had come inside the hostel. When we went inside the room, they came there and forced us to chant religious slogans,” A total of 5 outsiders are currently in Gujarat Police custody.
