Headline: All involved in the creation of ghost health workers in hospitals and ghost students in our local schools must face the law Following President Yoweri K Museveni Mzee’s directive, Kisanja no more sleep. Expose the corrupt. The corrupt in local government should seek Christ. It is not too late to ask for forgiveness. We must forge a new path of zero tolerance to corruption. Last night at 3:00 a.m., accompanied by the Regional Internal Security Organization (RISO) Chief, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, representatives of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), the DISO Mbale, and other security officials, we carried out an unannounced inspection at Busiu Health Centre IV, the largest health facility in Mbale District. Our inspection uncovered five ghost staff who have reportedly been on the Government of Uganda payroll since July 2025 despite not being at the facility. This raises a serious question: who has been benefiting from salaries meant for these health workers? It is deeply disturbing that while the available medical team is overwhelmed by the huge number of patients, corrupt individuals continue to siphon resources intended to strengthen healthcare service delivery. This is unacceptable, and it must stop. With inspections of only two health centres in Mbale District, we have already uncovered 10 ghost staff being paid by the Government of Uganda. Every shilling stolen from the public is a shilling taken away from essential services for our people. We shall continue these unannounced inspections and ensure that everyone involved is held accountable. Corruption in our health sector and in our local schools, where ghost students are created to steal public resources, has no place in Uganda. There was a panel discussion to update on child labour initiatives of International Trade Centre (ITC) & International Labour Organization in Uganda under the CLEAR project. James Muhangi of Rubanga Co-operative Society Ltd provided a powerful testimonial by articulating the business benefits and growth arising out of implementing the programme. Uganda has a good case study I then discovered that beyond the official booth set up by MAAIF 🇺🇬, a number of other Ugandan coffee businesses set up their own stalls and they were getting a lot of traffic. Douglas Jagira of Platinum, Teopista with her Women in Coffee Ug & the Agri Evolve team. Not to mention the illustrious Kenneth Barigye & mountain.harvest. Even the guys from the Rwenzori region. Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Uganda 🇺🇬 has been remarkably aggressive in driving the economic and commercial diplomacy l. I speak about the benefits in the video. The effective team of Amb. Richard Kabonero Amb. Arthur & Margaret Kafeero hard at work on this narrative. Brussels Embassy staff have moved offices to the expo to provide local support. Maj. Gen. Dangerous Escalation in East Africa: Museveni and His Son Threaten Kenya with War for the First Time to Ensure Uganda's Access to the Indian Ocean !! In a development that portends sharp regional tensions, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has declared that Uganda is "entitled" to access the Indian Ocean via Kenyan territory, warning of the outbreak of "future wars" if Kenya does not provide permanent guarantees for that access. He continued: "The Indian Ocean is mine... If we do not get guarantees, we will face future wars!!" Hours after this threat, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda's defense chief and Museveni's son, issued a similar statement in media remarks: "I agree with my father – Kenya must grant us swift access to the Indian Ocean because it rightfully belongs to us. In the future, there will be very big problems if they do not respect our wishes. For years, we have remained silent while being deprived of what is our right." While no official response has been issued by the Kenyan government to the statements from the Ugandan president and his son, Kenyans have responded with sarcasm, threatening to "drop Kampala!" They also advised Museveni to "take some water from the ocean and make his own ocean in Uganda," with some describing his statement as "daydreaming" or an "empty threat." Uganda is a geographically landlocked country with no seaport of its own, relying on 90% of its imports and exports—including oil and strategic goods—on Kenya's Mombasa port. As a country, we Ugandans have failed ourselves. We pride ourselves on education and boast of many institutions of learning, yet we cannot guarantee something as basic as safe roads for our people. The endless road carnage we witness across the country every day is proof that we still have no clear and lasting solution. After every tragic accident, the response is predictable. A few roadblocks are set up for a short time, often turning into opportunities for small bribes from motorists rather than real safety enforcement. Then everything returns to normal until the next accident takes more lives. Last night, one of those lives was Tonny Odokonyero, a brilliant Ugandan whose future held immense promise. Tonny was the best student at Lango College in 2001, scoring AAB in PEM, and the overall best science student in Lira District. He later graduated with First Class Honours in Economics from Makerere University, emerging as the best student in his cohort. He went on to serve as Manager, Macroeconomics, at the Uganda Development Bank and was scheduled to defend his PhD at the University of Pretoria next month. But his journey was cut short in a Mega Bus accident at Bweyale, a tragedy that reminds us how easily this country continues to lose some of its brightest minds. Tonny’s death is not just a personal or family loss; it is a national loss. Until Uganda confronts the crisis of road safety with real solutions, we will continue burying people whose only mistake was travelling on our roads. 💔

It has come to my attention that there's a video in circulation of a Ugandan actor Jovan Victor Nsubuga who is homeless in the streets of Canada. I woke up to inbox messages of the video asking me "ISN'T THIS JOVAN?" The little i know about Jovan is that he is a brilliant actor who left the Uganda in such of greener pastures but the plans did not go well. When he was still in Uganda, I was contacted about how Jovan was struggling with addiction and he had moved back to his mother's house in Lugazi. One of the things that hit us hard as artists is isolation. Many times, many of us feel left out or distant from each other and this leads to more complications and vices. I mobilised a group of actors, we fundraised to take essentials home and I was trusted with the responsibility of sitting with Jovan to understand his predicament and standing with him. Fast forward, with all help coming from all who cared for him, Jovan found himself and fought to get back to what he did best. ACTING. We tried to get him acting jobs and he even got back online, he was accessible whenever we wanted him for work. Later, i heard that Jovan had relocated to Canada, I thought that was something great. His online content showed a lot of love and merry. The brother was back on his feet. And THEN..........Now our Jovan is on the streets homeless. I am trying to get in touch with some Ugandan colleagues in Canada to see how they ca help Jovan. I know actor Mushema Housen is already looking for him, film producer Walta Gabriel Busulwa (Ugandan based in Canada) is also working helping and filmmaker Bwayo Moses is also trying his best to find Jovan We wish Jovan all the best and i will be back to update you when i have anything new.

The ongoing conflict in Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has caused unimaginable suffering and devastation. Innocent lives have been lost, families displaced, and communities shattered. I urge the African Union (AU), EAC governments and leaders to work towards an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, facilitate peaceful dialogue and negotiations to resolve underlying conflicts and promote lasting peace. Such instabilities in DRC should always remind us (Ugandans) of President Yoweri Museveni, the CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba (Muhoozi Kainerugaba) and the NRM government's continued commitment to security which is evident in the government's efforts to transform the UPDF into a professional and modern force. Since his appointment as CDF, Gen Muhoozi has prioritized transformation of the UPDF through establishing training schools, better remunerations to enhance the capabilities of the military. Over years, H.E Yoweri K Museveni has also highlighted peace and security as one of the key priorities for the government. This emphasis on security is crucial for maintaining stability and promoting economic development in Uganda. Museveni and Gen Muhoozi's focus on security is also reflected on government's commitment to addressing regional and international security challenges. Museveni's leadership has been instrumental in promoting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region and beyond. It's leaders like Mr. Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi- and not these opposition gamblers who have no idea about foreign policy, international relations and security expertise- that can handle leadership at the highest level. Locally, I appeal to opposition elements who advocate for violent means of change to reconsider their stance. Violence and bloodshed can never be a solution. I also call upon Uganda's youth to dismiss these parasitic opposition (mis)leaders who secretly advocate for bloodshed as one of the means of change of power. When the time is right and through our well established democratic practices, change of power will happen. Once again, let's hope for a swift peaceful end to the suffering happening in Goma.

At Speke Resort on Tuesday July 14th evening everyone who is anyone in the Ugandan coffee sector turned up for the launch of the 23rd African Fine Coffees Conference & Exhibition and the 4th African Coffee Week organised by the Coffee Production Department of MAAIF 🇺🇬 and African Fine Coffees Association. It will happen between February 17-19th and bring over 1000 international coffee players. Proverbially, the mountain is coming to Mohamed. This is validation of Uganda as a coffee origin on a grand scale. Why is this important? Because it builds on the recent positioning of Uganda by MAAIF as a reliable origin of high quality coffees and consistently significant quantities. We are now the largest African exporter making US$2.5 bn in the process. MAAIF has published the geographical profiles of the different coffees produced in Uganda. This is compelling market information. And now as a sector, we also have a national brand identity. It is a mark of quality. The plan, as Hon. Desire Muhooza , Agriculture State Minister explained her speech at the launch, is to reimagine Robusta Coffee which originates from Kibaale National Park in Western Uganda. It is a forest crop as distinct from Arabica which is referred to as a garden crop. Over 80% of our coffee production and exports is robusta. Until now, it has disappeared in other people’s coffees as a blender to improve their taste because it is a premium variety. But it was deliberately undersold to make it cheap. It is why it has never found its own identity in the consumer market. That will change. At the conference we will be talking about fine robusta and how to position it to final consumers. There is another reason why I have faith in the plans. The Chairman of AFCA is Jeremy Mpalampa AKA Jeremy Mpalampa one of the finest Ugandan minds in international coffee markets who runs Kyagalanyi Coffee, a leading exporter. The organising committee is headed by Kenneth Barigye, the man who recently sold a microlot of his mountain.harvest Rwenzori Arabica Coffee for a whopping $350 per kilo. A combined effort of these guys and the MAAIF Coffee Production & Development Dept team, it will work. Let me just finish by saying that our next challenge as coffee people will be to meet demand. The market is now aware of what we have. I am sure you know that inline there are many ways to get attention. You don’t have to do what your neighbour does, just do it your own authentic way. DRC President Tshisekedi Donates Pickup Trucks To UPDF’s Operation Shujaa Beni, Friday 31 August 2026 The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo His excellency Felix Tshisekedi has gifted the Uganda peoples Defence Forces under Operation Shujaa with ten brand new Land cruser utility pick up trucks as a way of appreciation for the job well done in fighting the Allied Democratic Forces ( ADF ) terrorists, who have for long terrorised people in the two countries of Congo and Uganda especially eastern DRC. While handing over the vehicles on behalf of the president, the Governor North Kivu Maj Gen Somo Kakule Evariste said the president was appreciative of the good working relationship between the DRC government and Uganda, and the two Armies joint operations against the ADF terrorists. The vehicles will help in intensifying operations against the remaining ADF terrorists in order to restore complete security in the region. The Ituri governor appreciated the efforts of the joint forces FARDC and UPDF for the peace and calm in eastern DR congo . Maj Gen Stephen Mugerwa, the UPDF Joint Task Force commander Operation Shujaa and and commander of the Mountain infantry Division received the vehicles on behalf of the UPDF and the Ugandan government. Among them, relative peace has been restored in eastern DRC, Displaced people have been able to go back to their homes, thousands of abductees have been rescued, ADF has been degraded, and most of its senior commanders have been put out of action. In addition, schools have reopened and inter regional trade has significantly been boasted. Similarly, infrastructure projects such as a number of roads are being worked on. They include Beni - Khasindi, Beni - Biakato, Biakato Mangina and Luna Komanda among others .This development has seen the volume of cargo trucks increase from 13000 a months to 30000 plus between the two countries. Operation Shujaa is an on going military offensive conducted by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces and Forces Armees de la Republique du Congo (FARDC) against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in Kivu and Ituri regions. The operation was launched in November 2021 following a series of bomb attacks in the Capital Kampala. The ADF attacks prompted the Ugandan President Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to declare that the ADF militants would be hunted down in their hideouts. President Museveni subsequently met with the president of the DRC Felix Tshishekedi and the two agreed to organise a joint operation force against the regional terrorists.

Investing in Treasury Bonds. I have been tasked to respond to this misinformation video doing rounds by CEPA and Louis on his constant misinformed attack on Treasury Bond Investing. Investing in Unit Trusts is indirectly investing in Treasury bonds. The best advantage they offer you is automatic compounding and ease access to your money if and when needed. They don't offer you any bargaining power, since they buy bonds as a Manager on their book and allocate you your return which has averaged 11-12% vs Bonds offering above 13% per annum. It has been proven over and over Direct Investment in Treasury bonds will yield a higher return than investing in Unit trusts (However both products are needed). He talks of Bank of Uganda as the issuer of Treasury bonds. Indeed, he forgets to add on one statement, on behalf of Government of Uganda (Treasury Department of Ministry of Finance tasked with Debt Management). Bank of Uganda is Government's Bank. But this is not unique to Uganda alone. Below countries use their central bank to offer and sale and manage the Treasury bond Market. The CSD is an infrastructure run and managed by Bank of Uganda and its the best positioned entity to run it, and all investors get their holding statement every single time the same way they get bank statements any at point in time. This is a custody infrastructure with settlement features, who better to run it than the organization entitled to issuing the Bonds on behalf of Government? What risk would materialize if the CSD system is to stay where it is? or move to another entity? He talks about Over the counter trading in Treasury bonds, what he ignores is, for retail investors, we are encouraged to buy from the Primary market auctions in a non-competitive way which is the similar practice world over, anyone who wants to set their price especially with more money, you are welcome to, how is it this a blame for the current system? In a bid to promote a private Members bill which is actually good for our market, he is soiling the same industry that he wants to make better creating confusion and uncertainty like as if it's only his ideas that are good for the market.

To the lawyers on here, I’m looking to learn: kindly help me understand the Buganda Road Magistrate’s reasoning here. The State Attorney, Joan Keko, informed Court that investigations in the MALE MABIRIZI Ug &East Africa RULE OF LAW CHAMPION case were still ongoing. Basically, the state wasn’t ready to prosecute a case they themselves brought before court and deprived a citizen of liberty. 1-The Magistrates Court Act, Section 75 says that: “a magistrate’s court before which a person appears or is brought charged with any offense other than the offences specified in subsection (2) may, at any stage in the proceedings, release the person on bail, on taking from him or her a recognisance consisting of a bond with or without sureties, for such an amount as is reasonable in the circumstances of the case to appear before the court, on such a date and at such a time as is named in the bond.” Why is it that the first thing Magistrates do is remand people even when it’s clear the state isn’t ready to try them? Why not lead with respect for individual liberty-as guaranteed in the constitution-and grant accused persons bail? 2. Section 77 (2) of the same act talks about matters “to consider in deciding whether bail should be granted or refused” None of these includes filing documents on ECMIS. Why did she shut down the Uganda Law Society Vice President’s bail submissions on account of that? Is it now a precedent in Ugandan courts that technology has amended the written laws? OR was she simply bent on throwing MALE MABIRIZI Ug &East Africa RULE OF LAW CHAMPION in jail just to please her superiors who, it appears, were the complainants? But also, why hand out custodial sentences (remand to me counts as serving a punishment before conviction) on behalf of a Chief Justice and a Court of Appeal Justice on a matter of speech? These people have surely read: Lohé Issa Konaté v. The Republic of Burkina Faso. Surely they understand that in Uganda, custodial sentences for speech shouldn’t be a thing. No?

European Parliament Our Open Letter to the European Parliament and the European Union On the Systematic Repression of Ugandans and the Theft of the 2026 Election Dear European Parliament, We write to you with urgency and deep concern over the continued violence, impunity, and democratic collapse in Uganda, particularly during the last two national election cycles. During these elections, the Uganda military and Uganda Police Force repeatedly turned their weapons against civilians. Ugandans were shot dead in the streets, arbitrarily arrested, tortured, jailed without trial, and forcibly disappeared. Peaceful assembly was criminalised. Journalists were beaten and silenced. Opposition supporters were and are still being hunted. Families were left grieving with no justice, no investigations, and no accountability. These were not isolated excesses. They were systematic, coordinated, and state-sanctioned acts of repression. What is especially alarming is the complete failure of Uganda’s political leadership National Resistance Movement - NRM to condemn these crimes. No senior government official has taken responsibility. Instead, several officials and security figures have publicly justified, dismissed, or even bragged about the killings like Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba recently did. This behaviour reflects a culture of total impunity and a belief that power places them above both domestic and international law. The situation reached its most critical point in the 2026 presidential election. The Ugandan people voted for change. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine won that election. However, the outcome was reversed through military deployment, lethal force, mass arrests, intimidation, media shutdowns, and the manipulation of electoral processes. The announced result by the Electoral Commission Uganda did not represent the will of the people—it represented the dominance of violence over the ballot. We therefore call on the European Parliament and the European Union not to legitimise Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the elected President of Uganda. Recognition without legitimacy undermines democracy not only in Uganda, but everywhere. It signals that elections can be stolen, citizens killed, and freedoms crushed without consequence—as long as power is maintained by force. The European Union cannot continue business as usual while Ugandans are brutalised by their own state. Continued engagement, funding, and security cooperation without accountability only strengthens the machinery of repression. We therefore call on the European Parliament and the European Union to take immediate and concrete action: • Publicly condemn the conduct of the Ugandan military and police during the recent elections. • Impose targeted sanctions, including travel bans and asset freezes, on officials and security commanders responsible for human rights violations. • Suspend military and security cooperation with Uganda until credible accountability and reforms are demonstrated. • Condition all EU financial assistance on measurable improvements in human rights, rule of law, and democratic freedoms. • Support independent international investigations into election-related killings, disappearances, and torture. The Ugandan people are not asking for sympathy. They are asking for justice, accountability, and solidarity. Silence emboldens abusers. Recognition without legitimacy rewards repression. This is a moment for the European Union to prove that its commitment to human rights and democracy is not selective. European Parliament Our Open Letter to the European Parliament and the European Union On the Systematic Repression of Ugandans and the Theft of the 2026 Election Dear European Parliament, We write to you with urgency and deep concern over the continued violence, impunity, and democratic collapse in Uganda, particularly during the last two national election cycles. During these elections, the Uganda military and Uganda Police Force repeatedly turned their weapons against civilians. Ugandans were shot dead in the streets, arbitrarily arrested, tortured, jailed without trial, and forcibly disappeared. Peaceful assembly was criminalised. Journalists were beaten and silenced. Opposition supporters were and are still being hunted. Families were left grieving with no justice, no investigations, and no accountability. These were not isolated excesses. They were systematic, coordinated, and state-sanctioned acts of repression. What is especially alarming is the complete failure of Uganda’s political leadership National Resistance Movement - NRM to condemn these crimes. No senior government official has taken responsibility. Instead, several officials and security figures have publicly justified, dismissed, or even bragged about the killings like Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba recently did. This behaviour reflects a culture of total impunity and a belief that power places them above both domestic and international law. The situation reached its most critical point in the 2026 presidential election. The Ugandan people voted for change. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine won that election. However, the outcome was reversed through military deployment, lethal force, mass arrests, intimidation, media shutdowns, and the manipulation of electoral processes. The announced result by the Electoral Commission Uganda did not represent the will of the people—it represented the dominance of violence over the ballot. We therefore call on the European Parliament and the European Union not to legitimise Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the elected President of Uganda. Recognition without legitimacy undermines democracy not only in Uganda, but everywhere. It signals that elections can be stolen, citizens killed, and freedoms crushed without consequence—as long as power is maintained by force. The European Union cannot continue business as usual while Ugandans are brutalised by their own state. Continued engagement, funding, and security cooperation without accountability only strengthens the machinery of repression. We therefore call on the European Parliament and the European Union to take immediate and concrete action: • Publicly condemn the conduct of the Ugandan military and police during the recent elections. • Impose targeted sanctions, including travel bans and asset freezes, on officials and security commanders responsible for human rights violations. • Suspend military and security cooperation with Uganda until credible accountability and reforms are demonstrated. • Condition all EU financial assistance on measurable improvements in human rights, rule of law, and democratic freedoms. • Support independent international investigations into election-related killings, disappearances, and torture. The Ugandan people are not asking for sympathy. They are asking for justice, accountability, and solidarity. Silence emboldens abusers. Recognition without legitimacy rewards repression. This is a moment for the European Union to prove that its commitment to human rights and democracy is not selective. Roman architecture is at centre of Europe’s visual allure. Sophisticated Roman structures have survived hundreds of centuries without renovation... In 103 AD Roman engineer Apollodorus of Damascus built a 1.1km bridge from stone and wood. Trajan’s Bridge was 19m from surface of river, 15m wide and capable of supporting the weight of hundreds of traversing Roman soldiers. It was only a few feet shorter than Sydney harbour bridge. Romans built a lot of West’s longest standing buildings. They were also the first civilisation to make bridges from concrete. Some of these ancient bridges stand now as they did day they were built. This is thanks to the structural innovations that were first used by Romans. And innovations that eventually helped shape contemporary bridge engineering. Alcántara Bridge is such a bridge, standing in Spain since 104 AD. Roman civil engineer Caius Julius Lacer was the man behind the bridge. His tomb stands nearby, with an epitaph that reads “I leave a bridge forever in the centuries of the world”. He wasn’t wrong. There is a rumour doing the rounds on web that Roman engineers in charge of building bridges had to stand beneath them as scaffolding was removed. Apparently, trepidation of tonnes of rock and debris falling and crushing you lead to some pretty tight structural planning. A more likely history is found in Roman Empire’s military expansion. To improve Roman access lines the empire formed guilds of skilled workers and thinkers who shared ideas and building principles. These early engineering guilds made important discoveries in structural design, in the materials and in the piers that supported the legs of the bridges. Romans had improved traditional footbridge by creating a bridge that maintained its structural integrity through the centre. To achieve this the Romans did not rely on steel beams running through the stone members, but instead on the tensile strength of the stones themselves. The shape of the arch allowed the bricks to be inserted at a curved angle until they joined at the peak of the arch with a keystone. This keystone was shaped as a trapezoid that used the weight of the stone and concrete in the bridge to compress the tapered stones together. This pressure formed a structure in the arch that required a tremendous amount of force to rupture. Where traditional bridges were at their weakest in the centre, the arch was at its strongest. Arch was a structural innovation in building design. But it wasn’t only thing Roman Empire contributed to construction. Romans were also unique in the materials they chose to build with. A natural cement called pozzolana was used by Romans as mortar for piers (legs) of their bridges. Not only is this cement said to be ecologically cleaner than today’s cement mixtures, but its also a cement that grows stronger over time. Pozzolana is still used in some countries. It’s made by combining two parts pozzolana (which is a type of slag that forms naturally from volcanic rock) with one part powdered lime. As early as 3rd Century BC, Romans used pozzolana instead of sand in concrete in their construction. This gave their structures supreme strength and stability. As not every bridge built by Romans had luxury of building its piers on land, Romans used cofferdams where the piers would fall within a body of water. Romans used cofferdam as temporary structure that allowed construction of a bridge pier in a space of water. Cofferdams that were used by Romans were simpler than ones used in contemporary construction, but their function is identical. First, Romans would dig a ring of timber logs into river bed. They would then fill gaps between logs with clay for waterproofing, before pumping water from inside circle of logs. Upon newly dry riverbed, Romans would construct pozzolana and stone piers. Yesterday during market identification, I was impressed by the rising demand for our fortified grain kalo, coffee, tea, spices, brown sugar, Hass avocado and its by-products, together with other Ugandan products. A brother, friend, and colleague in business informed me that all we need now is affordable and reliable air cargo availability, and we shall double our exports to North America. In Winnipeg, a far city in Manitoba Province, our Ugandan and Ethiopian goods are highly demanded and competitive on the market. Canadians and Americans are increasingly appreciating the quality of African products, especially our coffee, tea, grains, natural spices, Hass avocado, and organic food products. Young people, let us actively participate in commercial farming, even on small pieces of land. Plant coffee, grow Hass avocado, cultivate food crops, and engage in agribusiness because the market for our products is readily available. Agriculture remains one of the biggest opportunities for wealth creation, employment, and national transformation. Let us listen to the message of His Excellency President Yoweri K Museveni on the importance of utilizing even small pieces of land for commercial agriculture. Through discipline, hard work, and modern farming, families can create wealth, improve household incomes, and contribute to national economic transformation. This kisanja, no sleep. There’s been a lot of sudden interest in the privatization of public parastatals that happened back in the early 90s. Sadly, the folks leading such conversations are largely poorly read #OutrageMerchants who most likely haven’t even bothered to read the privatization committee report from Parliament of Uganda back then. They’re merely interested in driving up anger. Anyways, in addition to inviting people who are interested to dig up that report as well as minutes of the privatization unit meetings to understand how things went down, I thought this interview from a then 38 year old Maj. General Caleb Akandwanaho, can shed some light on the UCB sale and hopefully trigger your interest into researching the subject instead of flying off on a tangent just because you saw a tweet. Summarily: then Maj. Gen Saleh and his Ugandan friends wanted to keep the entity from foreign hands. They were driven by the desire to use local capital to finance local enterprises. Same thing y’all are arguing should have been done back then. President Yoweri K Museveni warned his brother to stay away from it. He refused and his hands got burnt. Ideas were floated around as to how to raise capital from locals. They failed. The bank eventually made its way to foreign hands. That’s just how private capital works. Hate the game, not the players. As a measure of success, at least going by the reasoning behind the decision for the government to divest itself of state holdings in businesses, the privatization of UCB is one of the most successful decisions to date. The entity has grown to be among the top 5 most profitable companies in Uganda, contributing significantly to the tax base and employing thousands. What’s with all this outrage? #CivicEdUG
