If an elected official is deliberately spreading misinformation- claiming that ICE agents are required to allow unannounced entry or must provide their name and badge number- then that’s not just a misunderstanding, it’s a serious distortion of federal law. Federal agents operate under different protocols than state or local police, and they are not bound by the same identification requirements. Spreading such false claims only confuses the public and undermines the integrity of law enforcement. It’s not the role of a responsible leader to mislead people - especially when it risks obstructing justice.

But even government agents must abide by State laws - unless a federal law exists that overrides State law.
