One of the few people to get the style of Frazetta right in animation & next to Ralph Bakshi there really aren't that many.
When that came out one of the fan magazines - CINEFANTASTIQUE or something similar - ran a comprehensive article about it. It was great. Featured a short Williams interview. He animated it in grease pencil and the cels had to be treated very gently

Knowing Richard Williams it was probably all grease pencil on cels.
