Incredible look into the action behind BLUE EYE SAMURAI. Neither motion capture nor live model references like in traditional animation, they instead employ a full-fledged stunt choreography team like for film/tv and incorporate it directly into the storyboard/animation process

During this scene in the terrific Episode 5, the beautifully fluid animation & complex movements reminded me of something like Disney's MULAN (1998). As it turns out, Fight coordinator Sunny Sun also did choreography for the 2020 live action MULAN

Here's the link to the full interview piece. Jane Wu has had an extraordinary career, and her work as a martial artist, live action fight coordinator, director, and animation artist all come together for the master work that is BLUE EYE SAMURAI

This resume is *crazy* (Also, I fucking loved BIG GUY & RUSTY as a kid, the kaiju brawling action in that show went hard as fuck)

I am genuinely in awe of the inventiveness, precision & creativity behind the stunts, the fights & violence of this show. Specially remarkable is Mizu's infiltration in the castle on episode 6. The action was insane!

After watching this, 'Arcane' and 'Across the Spider-Verse', watching the first couple of episodes of 'Invincible' made my eyes hurt. Animation can be so gorgeous these days.

The show has easily some of the most fun and most beautifully shot(?) fight scenes I've ever watched, cool to see how they did it

I must say also that the nudity in the series were very well done since they all serve the story. None of them were just for fan service or gratuitous at all.
