Defence Ministry is spending millions of MVR on short dramas, while cancer patients are struggling to raise money for life saving treatment. A small nation like Maldives should not be allocating billions to defence. Modern wars are fought with airstrikes, drones, missiles, fighter jets, missile defence systems, surveillance aircraft, naval strike platforms and other advanced system, assets that cost billions of dollars. With a GDP of just 7 billion USD, Maldives cannot realistically afford such military capabilities. What the country genuinely needs is a security guarantee from a trusted partner like India, something we already have (but we can formalise this), knowing they will stand by us in times of need. The truth is, Muizzu is not investing heavily in defence to protect Maldives from modern threats like aerial attacks. He is doing it to steal public funds under the guise of national security. People need to understand this reality and question where their money is going.
