In Maine and across the country, many dedicated religious workers have had to leave the communities they serve because of visa backlogs. The Religious Workforce Protection Act I introduced with Senators Tim Kaine and Jim Risch would allow lawfully present religious workers with R-1 visas to remain in the U.S. while awaiting a decision from the Department of Homeland Security on their EB-4 permanent visa applications. If this issue is not addressed, religious organizations in Maine and throughout the U.S. will continue to lose beloved pastors, priests, rabbis, and other religious workers who lead and support their congregations and communities.
