When Iran turned to Putin for help, it was refused, even though Russia called Iran an important ally and signed a strategic partnership agreement with it a year ago. Russia used Iran as a tool to put pressure on the West and destabilize the region: ◾️ Iran supplied Russia with thousands of Shahed-136 attack drones and technology for their production on Russian territory under the name "Geran-2." ◾️ Iran supplied Russia with short-range ballistic missiles. The total value of contracts for the supply of missiles and drones at the beginning of 2023 was estimated at $1.75-3 billion. ◾️ In return, Russia supplied its own weapons to Iran, including air defense systems and aircraft, which, as we can see, did not help Tehran. ◾️ Russia helped Iran develop its nuclear program to increase instability in the region and strengthen the "anti-Western coalition." ◾️ Using its influence, Russia maintained its military bases in Syria and shared military expenses with Tehran. ◾️ Iran, which has been under sanctions for decades, helped Russia circumvent sanctions: the development of the North-South Transport Corridor through Iran allowed Russia to export goods bypassing European ports. ◾️ Iran helped Russia master methods of covert financial transactions and parallel imports. This happened virtually on the Mediterranean coast. This created a dilemma: did Iran attack Türkiye or the Americans? Was it an attack on a NATO country or on a US base? Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said that the incident with the Iranian missile in Türkiye should not be considered in the context of the triggering of Article 5. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also said that NATO would not invoke Article 5 and go to war with Iran over yesterday's attack on Türkiye. So I don't see that being diluted, whether or not we'd be able to pursue it in the current framework when Iran is also recovering and needs to have its own infrastructure brought back. That is something that we would know in the next few months. In the long term, Chabahar remains a very important strategic investment for India. Iran is cognisant of the potential of Chabahar in the bilateral relationship, as also India's connectivity with Central Asia. So, a few years down the road, I wouldn't say that India doesn't care about Chabahar. India has not been able to give it the traction that we had hoped that we could. Limiting the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to 800,000 troops is acceptable for Ukraine, AFU's Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said. "It really guarantees repelling armed aggression in case of its resumption. This figure also guarantees a planned mobilization process. At first, we were offered to reduce the number of our servicemen to 600,000. But we are satisfied with the figure of 800,000," he said in an interview with Channel 24. Other statements by the Commander-in-Chief: ◾️ Russia planned to fully achieve all the goals of the so-called 'SMO' this year. The plans were grandiose. But we can now state that they did not come to fruition; they were thwarted. The enemy suffered enormous losses. ◾️ We see a change in the structure of the war and its rise to a higher technological level. We observe that the war has become so technologically advanced that drones of all types now dominate the battlefield. Their quantity and quality have increased. ◾️ Russians planned to form 14 new divisions this year. They only managed to form 7, with two marine divisions consisting of only one regiment. They were forced to take these divisions' personnel and redistribute them into battle units. This confirms that they really do have problems recruiting people. ◾️ I recently met with the Chief of the Defense Staff of the UK and the Chief of the General Staff of France. So, the vector has changed. We are being asked to help train their armies and their units. I believe this is the highest praise, when it is no longer us asking, but others turning to us. I am told that we are the first in Europe, and probably in the world. ◾️ Some people are shouting about the insane advance of Russian troops deep into [Ukrainian] territory. Insane advance... Is 4.5 kilometers a month an insane advance, when the enemy pays for it every day with thousands of the lives of its soldiers? ◾️ A contract system has been developed whereby a serviceman who signs a contract with very flexible terms will receive a decent money allowance. It is at least three times higher than the current established level. At the same time, additional payments, bonuses, and financial support will be preserved. ◾️ The mission of our Armed Forces remains unchanged: to defend our homeland, its territory and borders, and to destroy the enemy.

The Iran-backed Yemeni militia has fired several missiles at Israel and has already proven it can paralyze Red Sea shipping simply by making the risk too high for insurance companies and shippers. When President Trump talks about a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a way to "kill Iran's economy," we need to remember who stands behind Iran's resilience. Above all, it is China, and not only as a buyer of oil, but as a strategic partner that benefits from Iran remaining a destabilizing force in the Middle East. Russia, of course, as well, but Russia is bogged down in Ukraine. Iran is a tool. For China, Iran serves one simple purpose: to keep the Middle East in a state of chronic instability, which costs the US money, attention, and reputation. ◾️ First, the Iran war is pulling American potential away from Asia right now. China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Belarus, and Central Asia are meeting while Ukraine still burns and Iran is at war. Guterres is there, and Erdoğan is around the edges. This is no longer a quiet regional club. The SCO is often described as a counterweight to Washington, but it isn’t a unified anti-U.S. bloc: its members have competing strategic interests, different relationships with the West and, in some cases, longstanding tensions with each other. That makes the summit significant, as China and Russia may want a more multipolar world with less U.S. dominance, while countries like India have strong incentives to preserve strategic independence rather than simply choose one geopolitical camp. On Monday, China and Russia pledged to push the SCO toward a bigger role in “global governance,” where Putin offered to make Russia-China visa-free travel permanent after tourism jumped 43%. Meanwhile, India is playing a different game. Modi hugged Putin, invited him to BRICS in New Delhi, and still told him the world has to leave “endless war” behind. He told Iran’s Pezeshkian India will back efforts at lasting peace. Translation: keep Russia for energy and defense, refuse to join a China-Russia camp, talk to everyone. That is the real summit; India and Pakistan in one room, China and India with an open border dispute, Iran hunting cover, Central Asia wanting Chinese cash without becoming a Chinese province, and Kyrgyzstan trying to turn anniversary talk into funds, corridors, and counterterror machinery. The SCO cannot replace the West, but they can watch three things: whether the Bishkek Declaration names terrorism and the Iran war in language everyone can live with; who actually gets time with whom; and whether any real money moves.
