What you're defending as “constitutional morality” today, was conveniently celebrated as “secularism” by you back then. For years, Hindus silently tolerated blatant appeasement, and anyone raising objections was instantly branded “communal”. So what you're calling the “normalisation of communal politics”, is in reality a backlash against decades of selective secularism, minority appeasement and cynical vote-bank politics.
