Moments ago, Governor Mike Braun and new Indiana Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich were asked the question many Hoosiers are already wondering. A reporter pointed out that Gaylor Electric has previously received Indiana economic development tax credits and grants and asked whether the company could continue receiving incentives now that its CEO is also serving as Secretary of Commerce. Goodrich said he will remain CEO of Gaylor Electric while serving as Commerce Secretary. His explanation was that both the company and the state have "screening" procedures and staff in place to keep the two roles separate and avoid conflicts of interest. Whether internal screening procedures are enough to reassure the public is likely to be a question that continues to follow the administration, especially when the agency oversees programs that can benefit private companies. BTW, the office needs to do something about their internet connection. Over $44 Billion and it's pixelating this bad? Get it together.
