The 10 coach train has 2 Hydrogen Driving Power Cars and 8 trailer coaches, carrying around 2,600 passengers. Each power car produces 1,200 kW, giving a combined output of 2,400 kW (3,200 hp). The train is designed for 110 km/h but will initially operate at 75 km/h. India has also commissioned the country’s largest railway hydrogen refuelling facility at Jind, with 3,000 kg hydrogen storage and on-site green hydrogen production. The train features advanced safety systems, including hydrogen leak detection, automatic shut-off mechanisms, continuous ventilation, and certification to NFPA-2, ISO 19880, and TUV SUD standards. Indian Railways plans to expand hydrogen train operations, including on heritage routes such as Kalka-Shimla, supporting the National Green Hydrogen Mission and India’s Net Zero goals.
