Close to 90% of global shipbuilding today happens in just three countries: China, Japan and South Korea. Close to 81% of Pakistan’s military hardware imports come from a single source: China. In contrast, India’s defence procurement is far more balanced—driven by indigenous manufacturing and other global partnerships. India also has the capacity to emerge as a global manufacturing hub—especially in critical sectors. Under PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Bharat is aptly placed to lead this transformation. During my visit to Washington, DC, I spoke with think tank members and young professionals & emphasised how deepening US-India trade and technology ties is an economic imperative & a strategic necessity.
