In the interest of full transparency here are the details of my return to the White House Press Briefing room to ask a question from the new media seat: After Karoline Leavitt announced the new media seat and application process I filled out the form and reached out to several individuals who I previously knew from covering the complex with my interest in attending a briefing sometime in the future. They were noncommittal In the last 24 hours they reached out to me to see if I will still interested and I told them I was. *At no point* did I provide any of the questions I intended to ask to the White House and the first time they heard the questions was the first time that you all did during the briefing There was also no agreement or ask on their part as to the number of questions we would cover. I was given the opportunity to open the briefing and prepared 3 separate questions I thought were important 1. The stock market drop and the White House's reaction + whether they would commit to ruling out a recession 2. What message the White House thinks they are sending by trying to primary Thomas Massie 3. To get them on the record as to the legal standard they are using to deport Mahmoud Khalil I prepared those questions to reflect the concerns of Americans right now on the economy, concerns within the party as to what the standard is for Trump to intervene against you, and also to ask a question relating to a free speech issue which has animated online discourse in the last 24 hours I believe it is important to set a standard for independent media to ask questions that reflect why we became popular in the first place: Meeting people where they are at and asking questions about things that really effect them I want to thank the White House staff and Karoline Leavitt for inviting me to the briefing room and hope to return at some point in the future. Yesterday, at the Senate plenary, I voted NO to the proviso that has the capacity of whittling down the mandatory electronic transmission of election results from the polling units in Form EC8A. As I have explained severally, this proviso adds nothing to the law but has the capacity to be misused, misunderstood, and used to undermine electoral integrity and transparency. My view is that INEC has already explained that it has the capacity to transmit election results in over 90% of polling units. Therefore, I feel it is the duty of INEC, once we make it mandatory, to come up with guidelines and regulations that will stipulate strict conditions for the few cases where presiding officers may not be able to transmit electronically as a result of communication failure; and these, from the last INEC report, cannot be more than 7%. My view, therefore, is that we should leave it for INEC to handle through its regulations and guidelines. The law should only make provision for mandatory electronic transmission, which we have done, and we should stop there. Hence, I voted yesterday, galvanised opinions, and also joined in voting NO to the inclusion of the proviso. Unfortunately, as I have said, the majority is determined to utilise its numbers, and they did so effectively. In a democracy, the majority has its way, but the minority will have its say. I believe that the majority should be used for the national good and not otherwise. It is now left for INEC to stipulate strict conditions for the admission of election results not transmitted electronically. It is also for the courts to bear in mind the general good when interpreting this section to promote electoral integrity and transparency. As I have said, the citizens must not give up. As Governor Fintiri presented, the results collated from the Polling Units have Asue Ighodalo in clear lead before the State collation exercise was hijacked by the APC which, in connivance of some unscrupulous INEC and security officials, engaged in blatant alteration and substitution of the genuine results with fabricated figures in favour of the defeated APC candidate. The PDP had on several occasions alerted Nigerians of this sinister plot by the APC which will be firmly resisted as the APC and its candidate Monday Okpebholo were thoroughly defeated in the election. The PDP in the strongest terms cautions the APC and INEC not to announce or declare any result that does not reflect the Will of the people as expressed at the Polling Units. Such will be a recipe for a huge crisis in the State as the people of Edo State will never allow their mandate in illegitimate hands. Our Party again cautions INEC not to lose sight of the violent protest that trailed the criminal attempt by the former Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Hudu Ari to alter the outcome of the 2023 Governorship election in that State which nearly led to the death of some INEC officials. Any attempt to change the results of the Edo State governorship election and allocate victory to a defeated candidate will provoke worse consequences. If millions of legitimate citizens are at risk, that’s a scandal. If millions of non-citizens are on the rolls, that’s an even bigger one. This is why the debate matters. In that same incident, they publicly declared that Ilorin has no other religion but Islam and described Ilorin as an Islamic state. This declaration is a direct violation of Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which clearly states that Nigeria shall not adopt any religion as a state religion. I was receiving continuous calls from a student at Gargi College who said she was verbally abused and threatened by a male professor. On the day of elections, she was allegedly thrown out of the counting room, raising serious questions about transparency. DUSU & ABVP went there to ensure fairness & safety, where the administration had failed. Instead of addressing this, a false narrative was built by the teachers of Gargi College, shielding the accused and diverting attention. But the real question remains: what about the girl who was harassed & threatened? Why is her voice missing from the conversation? When the victim disappears and optics take over, we need to ask, what exactly are we celebrating?
