The guy on the ice had the right gear and obviously some training. He still died. Goes to show you how dangerous activity on frozen lakes can be. His main mistake was to move forward rather than back to where the ice had just supported him.

I don’t know I’ve never looked in an area where it is cold enough for the water to freeze, but even I know if the is thin, you’re supposed to crawl to widen your weight distribution so the ice won’t crack beneath you.
