He forgot the most important step…take your foot off the gas pedal. Your car will slow down and you can downshift your automatic transmission to a lower gear on the shifter, too (once it’s safe). This will slow the vehicle down safely.

It is a nice tip. the first thing to do is to keep yourself calm and cool enough to remember those tips.

My car is manual and I'll drop a gear or go into neutral while tapping the hand brake as to not lock the breaks up.

Maintain your vehicle regularly to avoid breakdowns and ensure safety. Check the engine oil, brake fluid, tyre pressure, and lights frequently. A well-maintained car is less likely to cause accidents.

I hope I never need to put this info to use, but just in case, knowing the right thing to do can be life saving!

All good advice, especially pumping the hand brake. Saved my life. After having your vehicle’s brakes “fixed” / new brake pads being put on, make sure the mechanic actually did the work he was paid to do / is competent. Perform a hard brake check immediately after repairs. Anything slightly off, demand a review. I once flew down a road without brakes and through a gas station after a well known brand faked an extensive and expensive brake job. Another time I left another well known brand and they forgot the bolts that hold together the brake calibers together.

I didn’t find that useful at all. Hand brakes don’t do much. My recommendation is to put the car in a lower gear if it is a standard. If you have an automatic that you can manually control, go to a lower gear and stay off the gas. If you have an older car, put it in D2 which puts it in a lower gear. Eventually going to L/1st. Once you are going that slow, the hand brake can actually work to stop the vehicle.

What about a foot emergency brake ?
