Somalians in Minnesota have been in the news a lot. As someone who has lived in Minnesota my whole life I want to share my perspective. First we need to separate groups. A lot of people are saying things like we should deport all Somalians. That is wrong. Many Somalians were born here or moved here decades ago and they consider themselves American first. They raise families here, contribute to their communities, and see this country as home. Treating them as anything less than American is wrong. With that said there is a different group of Somalians that people in Minnesota talk about privately but are afraid to say out loud. Starting in the late 2000s and continuing since then, large numbers of Somalians were imported here from Somalia who do not see themselves as American, they identify as Somalian only. Many do not speak English, many do not work, and many do not support American law and norms. People who live in Minneapolis or around have seen this. This group has not been a net positive economically, socially, or culturally. They have also gained a large amount of political power in a short period of time. This is why you see Minneapolis politicians speaking Somalian instead of English, and why the Minnesota flag was changed to look almost identical to the Somalian flag. People in Minnesota are not surprised by the recent fraud stories. The scale is shocking but the behavior itself is not. Everyone in Minnesota has seen what Minneapolis has become, and it’s sad. Most people in Minnesota don’t say anything about it cause they know they will get in trouble if they do. This does not mean every Somalian person fits this description, and we should not generalize in totality at all. But Minneapolis is a fallen city, and anyone who lives in it or around it knows this even though most won’t say it out loud.

If it were a once-in-a-million-years meteor impact that caused a reset, they would have said so. But it is not. It is the Geophysical Event... They will never confirm the event because of “national security.” They need you to keep working and grinding as if everything is going to be okay until things become unbearable. Then they will retreat into their bunkers, and you will be left alone...

This is not a border dispute. It is a sermon. A Hamas leader on a Gaza stage tells seven million Palestinians abroad to stop warming up. There are Jews everywhere, he says. Attack every Jew on Earth. Slaughter them. Kill them. With Allah’s help. The crowd is not a war room. It is a public. Hamas did not invent that sentence. Hamas is but one franchise of it. Islamic Jihad says the same thing with a different logo. Hezbollah wraps it in Khomeini and the language of “the Zionist entity.” The Houthis put “death to Israel, curse the Jews” on a flag and call it governance. The regime in Tehran funds the network and calls the Jewish state a tumor. Different uniforms. Same theology. For them, Jewish sovereignty is an insult to Allah, and Jewish lives outside the land are not off-limits. That is why “from the river to the sea” is not a housing policy, and why October 7 was not an accident of occupation. The target list in this clip is not a soldier at a checkpoint. It is Jews as such, wherever they are. Once the enemy is a people, not a government, there is no ceasefire that satisfies the idea. There is only a pause. Western coverage keeps shrinking this to one militia and one strip of coast because a regional ideology is harder to manage than a “peace process.” Factions are useful that way. They let you condemn Hamas on Tuesday and treat Hezbollah as Lebanese politics on Wednesday and the Houthis as a shipping problem on Thursday. The preacher does not bother with those folders. He names the Jews and asks the diaspora to start. If you want to understand the war, start with what they say when they are not fundraising in English. The map they want is not two states. It is a world with fewer Jews in it, sanctified as duty. Hamas is the local office. The ideology is the corporation.

Today is Kayoko's birthday! She does not talk much, and she tends to act as if she already knows everything before it even needs to be said. It is not that she has no emotions — she simply has no particular interest in letting them show, and at some point, the teacher has probably come to understand that. She does not mind being misunderstood, moves when she needs to, says what she has to say in as few words as possible, and considers that enough. When the teacher reaches out to her first, she does not push them away, but she does not exactly welcome them either — and somehow, that careful, precise distance she keeps is the part that tends to stay with you.
