In Israel we commemorate now Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day The Holocaust was a descent into organized horror as millions of Jews, along with other targeted groups, were stripped of their names, their dignity, and ultimately their lives under the machinery of Nazi genocide during World War II. Entire communities were erased in ghettos, mass shootings, and extermination camps where death was industrialized and suffering was routine. Survivors carried not only physical scars but the unbearable weight of memory - of loss so vast it defies comprehension. And yet, even in that darkness, something endured: the will to live, to remember, to rebuild. 73 years ago, on April 15, 1945, British troops liberated the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany. The surviving 60,000 Jewish prisoners had seen and suffered unbelievable horrors. But they still had hope. 5 days after liberation, the prisoners held a Shabbat service in the camp. It was the first time many of them had taken part in a Jewish service in 6 years. With what little energy they had left, they sang Hatikvah (the Hope) - in what later would become Israel's National Anthem. Never forget! Am Israel Chai! - The people of Israel live!

Six million Jewish men, women and children were murdered by the Nazis because they were Jews. We went out in London to ask people if they would take some time out of their day to learn about some of the victims of the Holocaust and light a candle in honour of their memory.
