Dancing and joy are everyday occurrences in most parts of the world, but in my beloved homeland, Iran, they serve as a manifesto against the backwardness and hollow authority of the clerics. The regime thinks it can regain control of the cities with threats, fines, imprisonment, and lashes—but they are gravely mistaken. The reality is that women in Iran never give up. Even as the regime arrests them for the “crime” of showing their hair or dancing, they proudly resist.
