@NuhuRibadu @AlakeDele Mostly the locals are into this. In the name of " Niger Delta people are selling their oil too and the government is still giving them 13% derivation". The foreigners that are in these fields are making millions of dollars for their country's development.

Well done, this thing go help anybody wey no sabi to shine their eye. Like everything for Nigeria, big picture dey. Na there government suppose face. This lithium matter no be forest wahala. Na national supply chain problem. Wetin Dey Happen After Dem Dig The Lithium Once dem dig lithium comot from Old Oyo National Park, e no just disappear. E follow clear steps. As you talk, dem move am comot forest. Bike men carry am from bush go Bonni, Igbeti, Kishi. From there, truck enter. Middlemen take over . Na here the real money start. Aggregators buy everything. Dem no ask question. Dem just want volume. Paper laundering start. Dem go label am as legal mineral. Dem go say na artisanal mining. Dem go create paper. Sometimes government stamp dey inside. Truck cross state line. Once e reach Kwara side, na new jurisdiction. Everybody hands clean again. Export am raw. Nigeria no dey process lithium. So dem export raw ore go China, India, UAE. Na there dem refine am into battery grade lithium. Global market chop. EVs, batteries, power storage.Everybody happy. Nigeria remain with dead forest and bandits. Why All This Dey Continue Because government dey fight small picture. Dem dey chase poor miners inside bush. But dem no dey touch: Aggregators. Truck owners. Export licenses. Ports. Customs. Paper trail. You fit kill 1,000 miners today. Tomorrow 5,000 go enter. Wetin Government Suppose Do Instead If government serious, na five big steps. Block aggregation points: Bonni, Igbeti, Kishi. Na there lithium turn from illegal to legal. Shut that junction, everything stop. Audit lithium exporters. Anybody wey don export lithium in last five years. Where dem get am from. Show pit. Show coordinates. No story. Ban raw lithium export. No processing, no export. If dem no build refinery, dem no export. Federal task force, not state drama. This thing don cross Oyo and Kwara. Na federal matter. Mining, customs, ports, security. Occupy the park, no be raid. Permanent security base. No go and come. Stay there. The Truth We No Like Hear Illegal mining no dey survive because miners smart. E dey survive because paper dey work. Once paper clean, crime clean. If government no attack the paper, the trucks, and the ports, dem just dey do film trick for bush. Final Word Nigeria always dey fight symptom. Never cause. This lithium matter fit turn to full blown security crisis if dem no act now. Big picture first. Everything else na noise.

Your information is accurate, but what you forgot to mention is that the government also collect revenue. Per 22 tire truck they collect 1,000,080 mil. And on a normal day the number of trucks that go out of Bani are over 40. Security agencies on the road also collect their own.

Illegal Lithium Mining Boom at Old Oyo National Park: 3,000–5,000 Bikes Daily, N2,700 Per Trip, Chinese Buyers, Local Security Earn N300,000 Daily A booming illegal lithium mining operation has taken over large swaths of the Old Oyo National Park, with an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 motorcycles plying the forest daily to transport minerals out of the protected area, investigations have revealed. The operation, which has been ongoing for about eight years, has evolved into a highly organised criminal enterprise with multiple entry points and checkpoints. Access to the mining site is available either from Oyo State via Kishi and Igbeti or from Bani, a border town along the Kwara and Oyo State axis. Once a bike enters the forest, it must pass through seven to eight checkpoints controlled by locals who provide security for the miners. Each checkpoint charges a fee per trip, ranging from N100 to N500, while the final checkpoint leading to Daba, the hub of illegal mining, charges N2,700 per trip. With thousands of bikes operating daily, the revenue generated is staggering. Local security personnel at the N100 checkpoint alone earn over N300,000 daily. Logistics operators who do not mine but transport the minerals earn about N500,000 per truck they move out of the forest. The mining activity has been accepted by all parties involved, including locals and foreigners. The Chinese are actively participating in buying the minerals, making this a billion-dollar economy that is being illegally exploited. The Federal Government and Oyo State Government must pay urgent attention to this illegal mining operation. The scale of the activity suggests a well-funded and well-protected criminal network that is siphoning billions of naira from the nation's resources while destroying a protected national park.

Lithium mining activity going on at the Old Oyo National Park, the first frame showed the sorting process of the earthy minerals at the Old Oyo National park while the other two videos shows logistics activities of the bikes. Ranging from there are multiple entries to the site either from Oyo State via Kishi and Igbeti or via Bani a border town along Kwara and Oyo State. Once a bike enters the forest, there are about 7 - 8 checkpoints within the forest which is controlled by locals providing security for miners in the forest. Each of this checkpoint charges each bike per trip ranging from 100naira, 200,300 and 500naira while the last checkpoint which will lead you to Daba (illegal mining) charges 2,700naira per trip. And the estimated population of the bikes plying through the area is around 3000 to 5000 bikes. Which is significantly increasing, the mining which has started about 8yrs ago has been accepted by all parties both locals and foreigners including the Chinese who are actively participating in buying the minerals there. It is an organized crime and has many wings because those who do not mine but just look for logistics companies to pick up the items earn about 500,000 naira on each truck they bring forward. The local security earn more than 300,000 naira daily for those recieving 100naira as gate fee. The Federal Govt and State Govt needs to pay a huge and urgent attention to this mining activity, it is a billion dollar economy which is been illegally mined.

Yesterday I rode down to the Umzingwane river from The City of Bulawayo. In the course of the ride I was able to inspect the state of some of the Umzingwane’s tributaries and the river itself. The good news, as shown by the attached video and pictures, is that the Umzingwane itself has been in flood and is still flowing strongly. The bad news is that I witnessed illegal gold mining in virtually every tributary, and very few tributaries were actually flowing. In all the pools in tributaries the water is exceptionally muddy, a sign of massive erosion upstream. The attached photos show tributaries not flowing and some of these discolored pools. After so much rain these tributaries should still have been flowing but they weren’t. To explain the significance of this I need to emphasize that the catchment has had at least 600mm of rain this season so far and last week alone had over 100 mms of rain - and yet the bulk of the tributaries weren’t flowing yesterday. Despite all the rain we have had Umzingwane as at the 21st January is only at 30,1 % full. In contrast Mshabezi dam is 100% full and yet its catchment area is very close to Umzingwane’s. The difference is that whereas Mshabezi’s catchment is mainly in the north eastern Matopos and has hardly any gold mining, Umzingwane’s catchment has been utterly devastated by illegal mining. Towards the end of 2024 Government banned alluvial mining in river courses. Yesterday I saw numerous miners hard at it. As stated above nearly every tributary of the Umzingwane has evidence of mining taking place. There are large camps of illegal miners. Despite this I didn’t see a single EMA or ZRP patrol. These miners are continuing their illegal work with impunity. The consequences for our City are devastating. Government needs to bring this existential threat to an end immediately otherwise Bulawayo’s water crisis will continue, indeed worsen. We are fortunate this year to have had a good rains which have put some water in our dams. In a drought year there will be almost no inflow. So this illegal mining must be brought to an end immediately.

#sapsNW [NORTH WEST SAPS CONFIRMS 14 DEATHS OF ILLEGAL MINERS] The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (#SAPS) in the North West, Lieutenant General Arthur Adams, has confirmed the deaths of 14 illegal miners at the Nkaneng dumping site in Bojanala Sub-District 2 (Rustenburg). The incident was reported to the police at approximately 21h00 on Monday, 10 August 2026. Preliminary information indicates that a group of suspected zama-zamas was conducting an illegal mining operation at a dumping site. A permit had been granted to a company to extract PGM (Platinum Group Metals) in the area. The group of zama-zamas was allegedly manually digging in an excavated area when the walls caved in, trapping the illegal miners inside. Nearby mine security was informed of the incident by a fellow zama-zama who, after reporting the incident, disappeared. Police were subsequently called to the scene, where the deceased illegal miners were discovered. Most of the deceased are understood to be Basotho nationals. Eight people who were rescued have been admitted to a local hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment. Three were discharged shortly after receiving treatment and were detained for contravention of the Immigration Act. The remaining five are still being kept in hospital under police guard. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation amid concerns that an unknown number of illegal miners may still be trapped underground. The immediate priority remains the safe rescue and recovery of anyone who may still be underground, with all relevant resources being mobilised to support the operation. An inquest investigation has also been opened to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Lieutenant General Arthur Adams described the incident as a tragic reminder of the dangers associated with illegal mining. Illegal mining takes place outside regulated mining environments, often without proper safety measures, oversight, or lawful working conditions. He warned that people entering abandoned or active underground areas expose themselves to significant risks, including rockfalls and other life-threatening hazards. #IllicitMining #IllegalMining ST
