inspired by SDPO, i made continualcode -- a minimal claude code that learns from your corrections in real-time, built on tinker. when you deny a diff, the model uses your correction as context to teach itself, takes a gradient step on LoRA, and retries with updated weights. claude code...

I got interested in trying to figure out how many bits per episode we coudl learn in RL, after some ablations on Tinker last November I was only able to track ~0.03 due to noise On-policy distillation is interesting because it gives dense per-token supervision (many learning signals per episode), instead of a single scalar reward. SDPO is especially interesting since you can treat rich feedback as privileged context: the model-with-feedback becomes its own teacher.

I benchmarked this idea in continualcode on LiveCodeBench with Qwen3-4B and Qwen3-30B. Both show an early jump in pass@1 and then quickly plateau. My current hypothesis (despite gpt 5.2 codex being used to give rich feedback when benchmarking) is that the per token advantages are too small and the teacher only disagrees with <30% of tokens. My intuition is that since we only use feedback on denied tools it slowly generates less and might need to use GRPO to increase signal. Albeit the runs I've done are relatively "short" and will try running for longer to see if I can try fixing more stability issues. Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks @sunfanyun @andrewnhwang for their advice and @johnschulman2 for the tinker cookbook this was built on, and @thinkymachines @clarejtbirch for tinker!

built off of nice work. there were some hurdles porting it onto Tinker but I think it was worth it

Very interesting and timely work, but I am curious what models did you use?

qwen3 4b! you can use any model here

i didnt find a difference in mode though i wasnt able to properly stabalize SDPO

That’s what I mean, the true continual learning needs to scale with more compute. But it is hard to achieve today.

clean realtime lora step on user denies unlocks tight feedback for code iteration. without persistent traces across sessions though, adapted weights vanish on restart - back to square one. anchoring those updates makes the learning stick. 🇳🇴

Updating model weights via LoRA based on rejected diffs is a genius loop for 'continualcode'. It feels like the missing piece for truly personalized coding agents. Sent you a DM about a potential partnership - would love for you to take a look!"

Faszinierend! Echtzeit-Lernen via LoRA-Updates könnte ein Gamechanger sein. Wie verhält sich das bei komplexeren Codebases? Und wie stabil sind die Gradient-Updates ohne catastrophic forgetting? #AI

Very cool! Sounds like it stops wanting to call tools? I wonder if you could only “teach” and do gradient updates for tokens in the content of the tool call/diff and the reasoning, while leaving the actual tool call decision/tokens untrained? Or you could ensure the privileged teacher calls a tool

Your approach reminds me of how I've seen language models adapt to user feedback in real-time, but the idea of incorporating corrections as context is what makes continualcode stand out. By leveraging corrections in this way, you're effectively creating an iterative feedback loop that refines the model's understanding over time. It's a clever way to bridge the gap between human evaluation and AI-driven improvements.

@blakeandersonw based. does it handle edge cases where corrections might conflict with previous context?

LoRA weight updates from real-time coding mistakes? Now that's how you bake continual learning directly into the workflow. No more 'train once, cry forever' models.

install these before your next long Claude Code session if your Opus 5.5 bill hurts and you don’t know where to start, copy this: claude-code-router: sits in front of Claude Code and sends each request to the cheapest model that can do it. Haiku does the grep, Opus only gets the hard part. 37k stars rtk: shrinks test, build and git output before the model sees it. one binary, up to 90% less bash output in your context. 83k stars claude-mem: remembers what happened in your past sessions and feeds back only the relevant part, so you stop paying to re-explain your project every morning. 100k stars context-mode: a huge tool output goes into a local database instead of your context window, and Claude pulls out only the lines it needs. 18k stars caveman: makes Claude answer in short telegraphic sentences. code stays identical, and output is the expensive side on Opus 5.5 ($20 per million). 51k stars token-optimizer: a local dashboard that shows where your tokens actually went, and keeps your work alive across compactions. 1.9k stars token-savior: replaces whole-file reads with symbol lookups, so Claude reads the function and not the 2,000 lines around it code-review-graph: maps your repo as a graph and gives Claude only the code connected to the change you’re reviewing jev-ultrafast: a browser agent where Jev picks every click, and a text model wakes up only when something has to be typed. 16,758 stars none of them makes Opus smarter. every one stops it from paying for work it never needed to do the full setup with scripts is in the article. do the measuring step first, so you know what you actually saved

Anthropic just released a talk on building headless automation with Claude Code. Presented by Sid Bidasaria, Member of Technical Staff at Anthropic live at Code with Claude on May 22, 2025 in San Francisco. Here is what the talk covers. Headless mode lets you run Claude Code without a person actively typing prompts from inside an automated script. Instead of a live session, a script calls Claude with a pre-written instruction using the -p flag. This opens the door for Claude Code to become a piece of a much larger, automated process. In plain terms: Claude Code stops being a tool you use and starts being a service that runs on its own. What this unlocks: Scheduled tasks: Run Claude Code on a cron schedule without anyone at a keyboard. Fix linting errors across an entire codebase. Automatically. Overnight. CI/CD integration: Trigger Claude Code as a step in your build process. Open a PR. Claude reviews it, flags issues, and pushes fixes before a human ever looks at it. GitHub automation: A project manager comments "Claude fix this" on a GitHub issue. Claude reads the request, finds the code, writes the fix, and opens the PR. Multi-machine workflows: One orchestrator dispatches tasks to multiple Claude Code instances running in parallel across different repos simultaneously. When you combine headless mode, hooks, and GitHub Actions, development teams can automate tasks that usually eat up significant time freeing senior engineers to focus on architectural problems while Claude handles the repetitive ones. If you use Claude Code for anything beyond single sessions this talk is worth 20 minutes of your time.
