oh that's so cool, you know this project could also work as a recovery partition, or you could even use it as a bootstrap partition version for those that want to completely erase windows

yes, that's a good idea. I had already been thinking about adding an option to completely remove windows, but I haven't implemented it yet. What holds me back is the stability and reliability of the end result. the project currently includes a lot of checks and fallback mechanisms to handle many different situations, and I partly rely on the fact that, if something goes wrong, the computer can still boot back into windows. I'd rather have the installation fail and leave the PC running windows than risk bricking the computer of someone who isn't very technical

@bee_fumo You could put a startup script on Linux that asks you if you'd like to delete Windows, keep it or ask again later. That way the user can check if everything works correctly and if all is good remove the Windows partition from Linux

@bee_fumo Oh, that’s actually a really good idea! I hadn’t thought about it that way! Thank you so much! I’m adding that to my to-do list That’s really smart, thanks!

@EnumDev_ @bee_fumo Making things a little more "complicated" could also be useful, for example, a command in the terminal that activates this uninstallation prompt. It doesn't necessarily have to be a complicated command, but it's an guarantee that no non-technical person will do it Accidentally

@EnumDev_ @bee_fumo good idea

Should maybe mention in the acknowledgements that this concept was originally popularized by which is now defunct but can still be accessed via the Internet Archive

oh ... yes

when email, tfa and age detection?

never

For April Fools you should cannibalize the Windows partition in the process after the first Linux boot. Really trap everyone on Linux /s

Wubi is back

rat malware backdoor bootkit

I invite you to take a look at the code yourself. It’s entirely open source : , and if you want, you can compile it yourself and compare the hash... You can verify everything yourself and get back to me if needed

yeah This Is Totally A virus man

LOL

Welcome back Wubi

holy shit linux.exe is real

I swear to fucking god I was looking for this back in 2025 and couldn't find it I've searched EVERYWHERE for this and I was convinced I misremembered or I died and got transferred to an alternate dimension quantum immortality style

This does look promising to lots of people like me. It was really hard to understand for me how to manage this usb things. I cant imagine boomers trying to figure out that

he saw the vision...

pls add more installation options

This guy can finally rest.

Don’t show @dhh this

thats actually awesome

This is actually massive. Linux adoption quite often stops at having to install it.

Wait options what you have, can work on just 32bit processors? Install is from windows, can someone tells me what is going on with windows subsystem for Linux? Are that work?? What your finely goal; is to safe move to Linux distribution for users who don have knowledge for that?

For now, there’s no 32-bit support (only windows 10 and windows 11 are supported for now) The goal is to make installing linux easier for people who aren’t tech-savvy or don’t have the technical knowledge to do it themselves. And this is NOT WSL, it’s a native linux installation.

I call gnu /Linux . Are know some tools what work that but from linux, linux can mount where you wont but... This is nice tool its time to atack little Windows installations 😂, First planes last win10 go on rolling relise; But it is need him, why don't use one more time 💰 etc

cant we have this for linux too for going from distro to distro

@dhh @ryanrhughes maybe something to keep in mind in the “long”-ish term so users can get up and running with Omarchy right from windows? Not sure if it’ll be the target audience if they don’t wanna tinker the bios, but it’s a start to get more people hooked!

welcome back unetbootin!

This is awesome 🤩

我的电脑并没有安装另外的磁盘,可是它强制终止了,说我有外接磁盘,请您增加选择内部硬盘的功能

It's planned

This is a pretty useful util!

Is NixOS or any other distros coming soon?

NixOS is a bit of a "special case".. I can't guarantee that it will work, it's an OS I've never tested.. but here's what I can say: a large number of ISO based on the debian kernel, as well as a few other exceptions, should be able to work with a custom ISO

If so I would install it in my laptop why the hell not

Hell yea, linux.exe

is this just like q4os's windows installer, and only for dualboot?

No, it installs Linux natively. And as for it being ‘only’ dual boot, it’s technically possible to remove Windows as well:

oh, for real? but, isn't it a windows exe? does windows actually allow the exe to delete the OS itself? how does that work? does it basically self destruct lol

or, i might be slow

It’ll be done from linux, and thanks to the person who gave me the idea, I think I’ll do what they suggested and add a button directly in linux to remove windows. But removing Windows from within windows wasn’t really my plan,it’s not really possible (I think)

ahh, so is your plan to tweak the iso?

Since the installer is already a custom installer, which in reality just takes the Mint or Zorin ISO, extracts it, and installs everything by itself, nothing stops me from using another Debian-based ISO and telling it to add this or that... I've already made it so that there is file sharing between Windows and Linux, so...

ohh i see. that's very smart, though it's a bit of an overengineered gimmick. still i respect the project and the willingness to make it easier for newcomers so they don't have to play with bios and secure boot settings

People reinventing Wubi from first principles (not that it’s bad)

1) what

@bee_fumo I can picture school admins cranking this already, nice work!

That is so cool

Wubi attacks again

Linuxからも出来るとインストール作業がより捗りそう…

Oof, this reminded me when I inatalled Ubuntu for the first time, many years ago. There was a Windows installer that kinda got the job done.

Welcome back Tuxissa~ 😂🐧
