🚨 IRANIAN WOMEN’S TEAM DEFECTS AS REGIME PRESSURES FAMILIES Note: I know this is a longer post than usual, but it is important to understand how the Iranian regime operates. Please take a moment to read and share. A dramatic story is unfolding in Australia involving members of Iran’s women’s football team. What we know so far: • Five players left the team hotel overnight and were escorted by officials. • They have now been granted humanitarian visas by the Australian government. • Three additional players are missing, and their whereabouts remain unknown. That means eight athletes in total are believed to have broken from the Iranian delegation. Now the pressure campaign has begun. Iranian officials are reportedly threatening and pressuring the families of the remaining players back in Iran to force them to return home. The pressure is being coordinated by Faraday Shojayi, Iran’s vice president of women’s football, who arrived in Australia after: • Mehdi Taj, president of the Iranian Football Federation • and a former IRGC commander was denied a visa by the Australian government. According to Iranian state media statements: • Pressure on the families will continue until the players return to Iran. • The regime is already framing the defections as foreign interference. Journalist Raha Pourbakhsh of Iran International has reportedly been in contact with several of the athletes and helping track developments. Meanwhile, coach Marzieh Jafari is also reportedly under intense pressure, as several of the players who defected play for the club team she coaches in Iran. The situation is still developing. Australia has indicated any team member who requests protection may receive a humanitarian visa. For many of these athletes, this may be the first real chance to escape the regime’s control.
