#repost From Francis Ford Coppola I was friends with Jim Morrison when we were film students at UCLA… He was a very warm and kind person, very considerate, interesting, and had a strong interest in philosophy. His father made a big impression on him, he was a naval Admiral, commander of an aircraft carrier. One night they (The Doors) brought me their record and I listened to “Light My Fire.” Two years later, they were a big deal. On the set of APOCALYPSE NOW, one of my editors, Barry Malkin, was set to go home on a Saturday (I was still shooting), and I visited the editing room before he left. I saw a bin that was filled with The Doors’ songs and noticed one with the title “The End” and jokingly said, “Wouldn’t it be interesting if we started the beginning of the movie with a song called The End?” I then reached into the bin of what was to be scrapped footage and just pulled out anything. It turned out to be some film showing helicopters sliding by the flames of the big napalm drop in the “Battle of the Valkyries” scene. And I liked it, so I made it the beginning.

On the 21st of June 2022, 4 years ago, when I was still a surgeon, I had no social media presence of significance, and a year before I started my podcast, I attended this meeting. I listened to Aseem Malhotra and Jay Battachyria essentially say that mistakes were made, and it was simply well-intentioned people who made mistakes during covid. To say I was disappointed was a huge understatement. When the mic was given over to the floor, I was the first to speak. And what was their response? They didn't have any.

My mom died when I was 17. I only have a handful of pictures and zero videos of her. A couple years ago, on my birthday, I got a text from a number I didn’t recognize. It simply said “happy birthday” with a YouTube link. I clicked it and my heart stopped. It was my mom. I had to pull over immediately. She was telling me how proud she was of me and how she wondered what I’d become. Maybe a policeman, a preacher, or even a clown. I couldn’t believe it. Well, it turns out the random phone number was my friend Jon’s dad, who had found this video on an old VHS tape they made before a 1999 school event. I was 16. He was even planning on coming for the weekend after the 4th. Turns out he’s an idiot like the rest of these guys 🤣 How are you going to be a fan of MY content, then go and act stupid? At that time, Pezeshkian was a MP and part of this committee but he never even read the JCPOA text (which he himself acknowledged) as he claimed that he trusts the JCPOA and doesn’t need reading!
