Interesting kickoff technique from Arne Slot while he was a player in the Dutch league. Slot got permission from Zwolle’s coaches to take kickoffs this way –though the future Liverpool manager did eventually abandon the idea after realising it wasn’t his best idea ⬇️

And here’s why … The idea was to get it in the opposition penalty area, everyone charge forward and take the opposition by surprise 😮. To quote one Dutch headline: ‘A brilliant failure.’

Currently a tactic employed by @realracingclub in the @SegundaSpanish - currently joint 2nd in the league - not so much as a result of this tactic mind

Uit analyse is gebleken dat tegenstanders moeite hebben met de lange bal

Love it. Great opportunity to elbow someone in the face and get away with it as the ball emerges from near earth orbit.

Did he shout ‘have it’ in Dutch while doing it?

It's not a bad idea in fairness if executed properly , might aswell start a game trying to put the opposition on the back foot than just the same old boring kick off every team does.

Sort of like the garryowen of football....not a bad idea to try something different. I often wonder for goal kicks, everyone goes to one side and keeper normally kicks to that side. Why don't they have one or two players break to other side and keeper hit it to them?
