Countries are joining NATO because Russia attacks their neighbors one by one (recently: Afghanistan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine), that's why Finland and Sweden joined in NANO in 2023/4. They do not join "for fun", it's existential for these countries.

This ignores a lot of history of Russian aggression. For example, Stalin starved the Ukrainian people and killed over 5 million of them during Holodomor. Russia has been invading and interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. Ukraine wanted to align with the West.
