Before Rani Laxmibai, there was Rani Chennamma of Kittur 🔥 Born 1778 in Karnataka, this warrior queen married the Desai of Kittur & became a force of nature. When the British tried to annex her kingdom under the Doctrine of Lapse in 1824, she refused to bow! Led her troops to a stunning victory — killed British collector John Thackeray, captured officers, and sent the East India Company running. Betrayed later, she fought on with commander Sangolli Rayanna until captured. Died in prison in 1829, but her spirit lit the fire of resistance decades before 1857. Karnataka’s fearless daughter. One of India’s first queens to take up arms against the British! Jai Kittur Rani Chennamma! 🇮🇳

The queen of Sivaganga lost her husband in the 1772 British-Nawab attack on Kalaiyar Koil, fled into exile for 8 years, allied with Hyder Ali & Marudhu brothers, & successfully reclaimed her kingdom in battle in 1780. Kuyili’s self-sacrifice is legendary, not documented.
