Interlink Name Service us now live on mainnet: what is it and how does it work? InterLink Labs 👤 + 🌐 Name Service (INS) is now live on mainnet INS goes beyond simply being simply an app: it is InterLink’s first move toward making human-readable identities available through a name service for InterLink, where names such as yourname.itl may represent long wallet addresses. At the time of launch, there were already 44 domains registered by 10 different owners. In addition, a price promotion period was promised to take place soon. INS is the way that InterLink has chosen to place a name between a human and a hex address. What INS really is INS is a decentralised naming system on InterLink Chain. A registered name is not a rented username in some corporate database. Instead, a registered name is minted as IRC-721 NFT, meaning its ownership is on chain and can be transferred or sold like any other NFT. After that, the name could be wrapped via the NameWrapper smart contract and transformed into IRC-1155 tokens with “fuses” that limit the ability to revoke subdomains for this name. The name is supposed to function as an identity passport, not only an address to pay. How it works INS uses an architecture similar to DNS and Ethereum Name Service, but it is built on top of InterLink Chain's smart contracts. Registry: The registry smart contract maintains information about name ownership, resolver used by this name and cache configuration. Registrars: Above the registry are registrar smart contracts responsible for implementing rules for name registration in a particular TLD like .itl including its duration and price. Resolvers: It's here where the resolver does the real job – it translates name into an address, content hash or other information. How to buy and configure a name The intended process flow is straightforward and takes place within the InterLink app: - Launch the InterLink app using Mainnet. - Open INS app from Core Team Apps / Mini Apps. - Link a compatible wallet. - Look for the desired name. - If the name is available, select a period of time to register it (for instance, one year or two years) and make a payment of the fee in ITL. - Configure the record data: at least the InterLink Chain address to which the name will resolve. Set up the primary name for reverse resolution.
