We keep hearing that retail Indians are borrowing too much, but despite all the noise, credit penetration in India remains relatively low and a significant population remains credit-starved. That said, to the extent that individual Indians do have credit, I think Bajaj Finance has done more to improve access than even many of the bigger banks. In a lot of ways, they've been pioneers. They took loan approvals from 3–5 days to 3 hours to, eventually, 3 minutes. They are also great at leveraging data. They track how old your appliances are and figure out your refrigerator is about to need replacing before you've even thought about it, and walking into Croma or Vijay Sales with a list of 50,000 customers ready to buy. Bajaj Finance knew you better than your retailer did. Having said that, businesses like Bajaj Finance and even Zerodha have had it relatively easy over the past decade. As India went online and consumers got access to easy credit and the ability to invest easily, we kind of rode that wave. But as the saying goes, success attracts competition. With all the new players now wanting to be lenders, including us (Zerodha Capital ) with our secured business, the future will be interesting, to say the least. Almost done with Episode 2 of The Ken's Intermission, and this one is on the giant that is Bajaj Finance, what it took to build that machine, and what it means for the future of credit in India. I cannot express what these past few days have meant to me Drew Tarver colton funn & Jess McKenna. 3 shows in 3 nights. 1 in Melbourne. 2 in Sydney including the first time long form improv has ever been performed on the concert hall stage of the Sydney Opera House. I was so curious what it would be like to take our show 7,500 miles away from where it originated but it far exceeded anything we had imagined. Thank you for all of the love. All of the laughs. And all of the support. Can’t wait to come back one day and do it all again. A massive thank you to Charney Marshall for making every moment of this experience amazing. And to Bohm for helping set it all up with Andrew Russell. 3 shows. Every single seat sold. Every merch item purchased. I’m blown away. Thank you Australia! Russia wants a ceasefire AND the last four years erased: sanctions lifted, markets reopened, a path back toward something like the G8. That’s the prize Moscow is shopping for. The trap is timing. If relief arrives the day a paper is signed, the West spends its leverage up front. If it drips out only after Russia actually complies, Moscow may decide the deal isn’t worth it. 2. Sovereignty. Can Ukraine choose its alliances? Keep a real army? Set its political and economic course without Russian veto? That’s NATO, force caps, foreign troops, the right to rearm. A “peace” that leaves Kyiv unable to defend itself is just an intermission. 3. Territory. This is the one that breaks governments. Russia wants pieces of Donetsk it still has not taken, land Ukraine has held and fortified for years. Galeotti’s question is the ugly one: is there a framework where Zelensky hands over ground his soldiers already paid for, and doesn’t get politically destroyed at home for doing it?
