Yes, BUT when those entrusted to provide global solutions (35 billion budget) prioritize their institution’s preservation and bureaucratic expansion there is no credibility. The lack of institution accountability reflects poor leadership and core corruption.

The core issue is who holds the UN accountable? Most recently a total refusal to acknowledge UNWRA’s role in the Gaza debacle. Instead they used the levers of ICC indictments as reprisal against criticism. Leadership has failed a once trusted and much admired institution.

I thank Chancellor Scholz and President Macron, as well as everyone on our teams, for preparing the agreements and putting exactly what we needed on paper. Defense support, joint political actions, and further systematization of cooperation between our countries with the goal of increased security and shared strength. We continue to work with other partners on new agreements. This will result in an effective and comprehensive security commitments architecture. These are the things that will deter Russian aggression in the future while also helponh us to protect our independence now.
