This is around the bend from a blind curve and downhill. Cyclists can only see the full crosswalk, at best, from 100' away. At 20mph, that leaves 3.4 seconds for Cyclists and pedestrians to react, if they are paying attention. Deepest condolences for the Cyclist. Family, and friends for this seemingly preventable tragedy. Shame on Parks, the Conservancy, and DOT for encouraging high speed biking in the park!

@nyc_evsa @NYCParks @NYC_DOT @CentralParkNYC As one of the very few cyclists who does stop at red lights in Central Park, I have received nasty comments and other cyclists riding way too close to me as they pass while I am waiting. Where is the enforcement?!

@NYCParks @NYC_DOT @CentralParkNYC @nyc_evsa no bikers ever do anywhere in the park. i've never once seen one stop never. they think they have the right of way and don't obey stop signs. they should they can get hurt as well as walkers, pets and even crossing turtles trying to lay eggs!

@NYCParks @NYC_DOT @CentralParkNYC @nyc_evsa This is so sad and frustrating. Cyclists need to follow the rules too—running red lights puts everyone at risk. @CameronWest38CameronWest38 has been talking about this exact issue. Safety has to come first.

Now we’ve got to the point the NYC mayor is encouraging demonstrations outside synagogues and a Jewish immigrant comic’s NYC show has been cancelled because it looks too Israeli. Where do we go from here?

Good morning Citi Bike Lyft, It pains me to report that the attached video appears to show former NYC Comptroller, congressional candidate, and the Panderista of Park Slope Brad Lander, native of St Louis, riding a Citi Bike through a crosswalk and proceeding through two steady red lights. I was under the impression that Citi Bike members agree to follow NYC traffic laws — including no riding in crosswalks and full stops at red lights — particularly those who regularly lecture the public about “street safety.” I assume rules apply evenly, and that traffic laws are not a sliding scale based on job title, press conference frequency, or number of transportation policy panels attended. Please review the video and advise whether this conduct complies with Citi Bike’s user agreement. If not, I trust appropriate action will be taken. In a city that is very enthusiastic about enforcement, consistency would be refreshing. cc: NYC DOT

This is refreshing - a politician at a photo opp baulking at wearing a high VIZ just to ride a train. WP challenged the CEO of Auckland City Rail link to explain why he had to wear a safety vest to take a ride in the train - to which he could not get an explanation. WP who worked as a tunneller in his youth stated: “All this stuff for no benefit, this is what is wrong with our society, everyone just falls into place and everyone accepts it” The media reported the event as being ruined by WP ‘asking questions’, WP eventually was persuaded to put the vest on but released a statement : “Safety is critically important but turning it into a costume period drama risks undermining it” This is exactly what is wrong with the country - westernised countries have fallen victim to Safety fetish communist culture - “for your safety”.

JUST IN: New York City is now calling on *all* residents to carry Narcan with them at all times as the city's drug crisis continues to spiral out of control. Life didn't have to be this way, NYC. The NYC Health Department made the announcement as one New Yorker is dying every three hours from an overdose. Narcan is known for reversing overdoses. “No one is spared, even if you think otherwise. If you use drugs, know someone who is using drugs, or might be around drug use, there are simple steps we can take. First, everyone should carry naloxone, get trained to use it and to recognize the signs of overdose," said Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan. Sad to see what NYC has become.

The children have died. It is a very sad incident. The Railway Ministry must clamp down on this system because anything that depends on human intervention, where a person is responsible for closing a gate, is prone to human error. It is high time we moved to a fully automated system, and I would urge the Railway Minister to treat this as a top priority. Unfortunately, safety issues in India continue to receive very low priority. Even in 2026, we are witnessing deaths like these, where a vehicle crosses a railway track and children lose their lives. We have also seen the KAVACH system. It is supposed to cover the entire railway network, but that has still not happened. While a high-speed railway line worth Rs 1.30 lakh crore has been built between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the cost of covering the entire Indian Railways network with KAVACH is around Rs 63,000 crore. Yet that has not been completed. We have no objection to high-speed railways, but we believe the Railways' priority should be safety measures, both on the tracks and in situations like this."

A #SummerStreets thread. Today I'm certain it had more attendees than last Saturday. I've been fascinated with finding a way to measure it in a simple fashion. Today I decided at 10:30 am to stop at 66th Street. In this shot, in 53 seconds roughly 250 users are in frame (both sides)! Summer Streets is 8 hours long. There are roughly over 200 intersections over the course. 53 seconds is roughly 1 minute. It was extremely crowded like this for about 5 hours.
