Vince McMahon was sexually abused by his mother. In a 2001 Playboy interview, Vince McMahon heavily implied that he was sexually abused by his mother. PLAYBOY: "You have said that the sexual abuse in your childhood 'wasn't from the male. It's well known that you're estranged from your mother. Have we found the reason?" McMahon paused, nodded, and replied: "Without saying that. I'd say that's pretty close." McMahon later revisited the subject in the 2024 Mr. McMahon documentary, where he spoke more broadly about his childhood abuse and rejected the idea that victims are destined to become abusers. Reflecting on his childhood trauma, Vince remarked: "When you're abused as a kid, the tendency is for you to abuse. I've never subscribed to that. Anything bad that happens to you, get rid of it."

Scatman John's lifelong and prominent stutter was a source of deep pain and trauma during his childhood, but it eventually became his greatest asset and the cornerstone of his worldwide fame. His experience with stuttering shaped his music and his message of self-acceptance. While his music was directly about his stuttering, Scatman John believed the message was for everyone. In 1995, he explained that "everybody stutters one way or the other," referring to the worries that we all have.
