A few months ago I saw a video from @asidorenko_ and was really amazed by the quality. After researching, the only way to achieve a really beautiful code animation was using Magic Move or doing some really tedious work. I thought there had to be an easier way to automate it.

So, Hackreels was born! I have known about @Remotion for a bit, but this seemed like a perfect tool to achieve this style of Alex’s videos I was looking for. (Without needing Keynote) @JNYBGR showed me a few repos for inspiration and I got to work.

After a few months of hacking on this idea, I finally had an MVP. The first person I showed was @Aarondfrancis who recorded a private YouTube video giving me amazing feedback. I went back, and rewrote probably 50% of the app. And here we are! (Thanks Aaron)

I built this app because this was a tool I wanted to exist in the world. I’ve been dying for something to easily create and share really nice looking code animations. I couldn’t be more excited to share this with everyone! My DMs are open if you have any feedback.
