The Kigurumi Classroom ✏️ Here's a little behind-the-scenes from a kigurumi classroom photoshoot I joined a while back. The idea was simple: bring together a group of kigs in a classroom setting and see what kind of moments we could create. What I enjoyed most wasn't just the photos, but the experience itself. It was a chance to meet and interact with many kig friends and simply enjoy spending the day together. I also had the opportunity to work with several photographers, each with their own unique style. Some created warm, nostalgic images, while others captured a cooler, more cinematic atmosphere. It was fascinating to see how the same setting could tell completely different stories depending on the person behind the camera. Looking back, it was a truly memorable experience, and I'm grateful to the Hong Kong kig community for organizing it. I think that's one of the special things about this hobby—no matter where you go, there are always friends to meet, each bringing their own personality and creativity. The introduction of the main antagonists in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag is clever, intense, and among my favorite scenes in the series. It would have been easy for Ubisoft to make them cardboard cutouts of mustache twirling bad guys hellbent on world domination (and they certainly are), but they go a step further to give them an unusual amount of depth and charm. These guys are sadistic psychopaths, each with their own distinct personalities who take pleasure in crushing their opponents and watching them suffer. One of them also loves to collect the hidden blades of fallen Assassins, which is especially twisted and it reminds me a lot of General Grievous from Revenge. One thing that makes this scene better is the dynamic at play: As confident and knowledgeable as these guys are, in their hubris they've failed to realize that Edward has them entirely fooled, making it into their inner circle with very little effort. On the flip side, Edward, only thinking about money and power, has no idea what Assassins are, and zero idea as to what kind of trouble he's truly stumbled into. Putting them all in the same place so early on was such a great idea. I love this game.

Enjoy the new brand look for Polar Signals Over the last few months, we worked on the company’s brand refresh, designed and developed the new website, built multiple apps to speed up brand graphic creation, produced a product explainer reel for the hero section, and created an extensive branding system so every asset feels consistent while still being unique to the brand. Polar Signals wanted to preserve parts of their existing visual identity, especially the original colors and gradients. We used that as a starting point, then refined the color system, created new gradient combinations, and modernized the overall look while keeping a clear connection to the brand’s legacy. We also came up with the new typography and grid system, and blended different visual styles so the brand could support a technical, information-heavy product while still feeling polished, clear, and professional. This video is a new demo of NotebookLM that I shared earlier this month at the AI + Education Symposium with MeshEd, XQ, and Betaworks. This is an educational use-case, but the general structure of what I’m doing in the demo—take a curated collection of sources and quickly transform them into a detailed document that obeys strict guidelines—is generally applicable to many fields. Note how I am not just using the sources as ground truth for the project, or as the content for the lesson plan. The Jacobs quotes and interview are the content, but my handwritten notes provide the structure, and the framework source provides the values or guidelines for the finished project. With some simple prompting, NotebookLM and Gemini can draw on information from the sources using those different modes simultaneously: content, format, values. (I even forgot to explicitly tell the model to use the structure outlined in my notes, but it figured that out anyway.) This is remarkably sophisticated knowledge work. Building a draft lesson plan like this would normally take hours if not days. But crucially I’m in control of the document that is being generated here — it’s based on the information that I have curated, and on the instructions I’ve given NotebookLM for adapting that information into the lesson plan I want to create. Co-intelligence, as @ethanmollick would call it.
