.NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman Jared Isaacman reveals the plans for Artemis III, Artemis IV and the moon base: “Artemis III in 2027 is going to be very Apollo 9-esque, where we will rendezvous the spacecraft Orion with the landers, but we‘re going to do it in Earth orbit... In 2028, you’re going to have Artemis IV, which will actually land NASA astronauts on the moon. In parallel, we’re building the moon base. Starting in early 2027, you are going to see robotic uncrewed landings on a nearly monthly cadence... building the base so when the astronauts arrive, they have a lot of equipment to work with.”

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman says the primary objective of the Artemis II’s trip around the moon is “to gather data from the ECLSS system, the life support system on the Orion spacecraft,” which will be used in future missions. “Learning as much as we can about Orion is critically important because Artemis III is a year away,” he says. “That's where we're going to test the same spacecraft with our lunar landers. Followed up in 2028 by Artemis IV, where we're going to use this spacecraft, transfer crew to the landers, and put American astronauts back on the surface of the moon.”
