If thought were independent of language, we wouldn’t have any use for language, because the whole point of language is to convey ideas. So it’s not independent, but it’s not the same thing as language. We know it’s not the same thing for many reasons. One of them is: how would children learn language to begin with if they were incapable of thinking until they had language? The way that language acquisition has to work is that children have some understanding of the world, of the objects around them, of the intentions of the people that they interact with, and they map them onto the sequences of sounds and gestures that they perceive. Also, we know that there are many forms of thought that are not linguistic, such as visual imagery, spatial cognition, and mental maps, all of which are specialties of Professor Tversky, who I’m sure will enlighten us about those. Even when it comes to the content of language, what we take away after the words have faded is the gist of language, not the words themselves. Within a few seconds after I stop speaking, or a few minutes after you’ve read something, you probably could not reproduce a single sentence verbatim, but hopefully you would come away with the content, the meaning, the gist. And one of the most robust findings in our field, cognitive psychology, is that long-term memory for gist is far more robust than memory for text itself. We know from studies of the brain that there are networks of language in the brain that are not the same as the parts of the brain that light up when people are thinking visually, thinking spatially, or thinking in terms of motion. Again, to go back to one of Professor Tversky’s specializations, we can imagine tying a shoe; we can imagine diving off a board. We have auditory imagery—a song can run through our head—and there are probably other forms of thought that we don’t even have names for. We also know that we sometimes struggle to put our thoughts into words. We write down a sentence, and we realize, no, that’s not what I meant, and rewrite it until the sentence comes out right. Did you know there might be a second language on the Book of Mormon gold plates? Most Latter-day Saints have heard that the plates were written in Reformed Egyptian, but not as many people realize that the Book of Mormon started as essentially a different language first. And the relationship between these two languages, I believe, supports the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. What the Nephite language started as, is described in the first chapter of the book of Mormon as "the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians." Scholars have theorized that this first language could contain a mix of Hebrew and Egyptian features. So the Book of Mormon writing may have started out looking something like this, a Judahite variety of Egyptian known as Palestinian Hieratic that is attested in Lehi and Nephi’s day. But languages don’t stay static. After hundreds of years, it seems this earlier Egyptian language evolved into a modified, or Reformed Egyptian, as Moroni calls it at the end of the book. So maybe something like this. Since the writings of Nephi and Mormon both appear to be included on plates that became the Book of Mormon, one would expect their languages to look different. And Martin Harris’s visit to Professor Charles Anthon may show evidence of this shift. New research reveals Anthon may have seen two different transcripts: one that resembled Egyptian—like at the beginning of the Book of Mormon— and another that was harder to identify, just like we’d expect from an evolving, reformed language. Language changing over time is totally natural—just look at how different English was a few hundred years ago! I imagined that Atlantean was descended from C.S. Lewis's "Old Solar" and an ancestor of Tolkien's Elivsh--but also of Proto-Indo-European, and Proto-Semitic, so that traces of the modern Biblical languages and Romance languages can all be heard forming in the words. And "Light Language" can even be interpreted (so she says). Much like charismatics claim tongues can be interpreted (but they cannot). He asked: "If you can understand worlds, is it possible that you understand proteins and chemicals that have structure?” This is the quiet revolution happening in AI right now. We're moving from an AI that understands human language to an AI that understands the language of nature itself. The "letters" are atoms. The "words" are molecules. The "sentences" are the complex structures of life, networks, and reality. The same foundational models that generate video are now being used to: *Decode proteins to fight disease *Design new materials at the atomic level *Simulate complex systems in quantum computing These were once the domain of supercomputers and Nobel laureates. If somebody working in other states don’t want to speak that states official local language then why go there to make living or do business? Get out and go back to your home state. (Listening to below attach clip will further make more sense) 1. Though normally don’t agree with politicians like Tejasvi Surya or for that matter Raj Thackeray style of divisive politics based on language. But here what wrong had #TejasSurya said? He had not incited people for violence or to hate others. He just said migrants people who had come to Karnataka for a living should speak in local language. What wrong in that ? 2. This is not just a question of people speaking Kannada or Tulu or Marathi,Tamil,Malayalam,Telugu or Bengali and other languages. If somebody is going in other states in our country for job or doing business then they should not only respect local people’s culture and languages butthey must also learn and speak that local language. Else people should go to any states in India as tourist and return back to their home state. 3. Why local people in Karnataka,Maharashtra,TamilNadu, West Bengal or any states are upset and angry not because of outsiders migrations but migrant people refusing to learn and speak local language and migrants behave very arrogantly many times, sometimes violently against local people. Even PM #NarendraModi had suggested people to learn 2-3 other states languages apart from our own mother tongue language. 4. Any govt organisation sending people to other states must ensure that their employees learn local language before giving them job profile training or after transfer to other states . Any private sector Businesses wanting to setup industries or offices in any states, must ensure they learn local language of that particular state, employ local people and when they are hiring people from other states then migrant employees are made to learn and speak local languages. If not then better leave that state. 5. 28 States in Bharat ie. India were formed on linguistic ie. Language basis. How can we afford to become one nation with only one language,with one culture, one system which is what people call it #Woke #Wokisme culture? Our SanatanDharma is very vast diverse ocean of many languages,rituals,food habits,different ways of life. We must maintain that diversity as we are not ChineseCommunistsParty ruled one party one Communists-Maoists country. 6. Hearing that few Business people saying they will shift their businesses from #Bengaluru to Pune or some other place as they and their employees are pissed off by local population insistence of speaking in local language and that they don’t want to learn and speak in local language. Why are you there first of all? You have not gone there as tourists for few days but you people found some business/employment opportunities to make a living then better learn and speak local language or go back to your home states. 7. People learn English before going to USA,UK,Australia and other English speaking countries. People learn French,Spanish,Mandarine,Japanese,Arabic languages before or after going to those countries . Else how can they survive and continue to work in these countries? Then why people in our country unwilling and refuse to learn and speak local languages of states where they work and make a living ? 8. Of course we the people of Bharat ie. The Speaker announced in Lok Sabha today that translations of proceedings is being made available in 22 languages including Sanskrit. Translations, are most welcome for languages that are official state languages. Can you tell me which state has Sanskrit as its official language? Why is taxpayers' money being wasted on a language that is not even communicable? It is not spoken in any state in India, and nobody uses it for communication! As per the 2011 Census, only 24,821 people supposedly speak Sanskrit. When this data is available, why should taxpayers' money be wasted to further the RSS ideologies?
