haha omg

expect the initial agent's response to be ~5-10mins delayed! the system is undergoing A LOT of traffic rn...

just bought + deployed a 2nd line. should ease the overall experience!

holy smokes was that intense

Cool idea. Might be a hit but better exit before it dies. This is what I call "aspirational consumer product". Much like camper vans during covid. It's a product that enables people to be what they imagine they are (or want to be). Until they realize they are not.

ty for the feedback. heard

Absolutely! Don't get me wrong. This category can absolutely be a rocket ship. But if you don't reach escape velocity you better know when to eject.

@danielbelfort Who said this has to be a scale up. Dude doesn’t have to IPO.

this is such a cool idea but plsssss include a real photo on your landing page! i wanna know what it really looks like, the print quality is the most important part

sooo true! will fix asap. the actual mag quality is what you see in the vid btw

incredibleeee thank you!!! actually insane response time btw haha. congrats on launch, already messaged offprint and super excited to get my first magazine lol. good luck scaling with this level of load omg!!!!

ofc!!! i care about this and will do my best 🫡

Mine would ship as a 900 page encyclopedia and I'd still only read the spine. Guilt does stack nicer on paper though.

hahahaha

I had similar idea a while back. The issue is copyright. It’s impossible to chase down the owners of random articles on the internet, negotiate a release, even if they all were for it. Someone will sue and it’s a guaranteed loss. But godspeed to you all

hey! readers print one private copy of what they can already read; paywalls are never crossed and takedowns purge everything

I hear you. I also spent over a decade in copyright tech and law. The court will look at this as an unlicensed copy, because you reproduced it without the author’s permission. The hardest part is just the fact when someone decides to sue. It costs a lot to fight it.

@danielbelfort Copyright law is weird. If I print it out myself, it's fine, right? If I bring it to a copy center so they print it and bind it for me, it's still fine, no? But when someone does it for me, it is no longer ok?

It’s the intent that matters. And what happens to the content during the process. As an example I was exploring online lending service for content one already owns, like dvds. But this was already heavily litigated. Even though you own it and can lend it to your friend, you streaming it to them even with the dvd being prohibited from use during that period is illegal. Ultimately copyright law is trying to balance the right to use with right to reproduction. Because copying is so easy in the digital world, the lines are much murkier.

@vit_tucek @danielbelfort Well the intent here doesn't seem to be "we sell unauthorized copies of content you couldn't normally access" and more "we have really nice glossy paper and binding machines, send us some content and we'll print it for you".

@vit_tucek @danielbelfort Apple used to have a similar service embedded into iPhoto, you could have really nice bound books made with your photos...which could have come from anywhere and carry any copyright.

@vit_tucek @danielbelfort I am skeptical court will interpret it that way. Apple had no gray area around content ownership. Pass through responsibility in copyright is challenging. Ask charter communications.

can I share an account with another person? I think this would be a great shared activity for couples! we could read each others articles and share a magazine 🥹

this is an epic idea! noted

@ZyMazza +1. I wasn't sold on the magazine idea at first, until I saw that comment.

@danielbelfort @ZyMazza Same that's a fantastic idea. Couple/family/friendgroup accounts. I don't see any harm in letting N people contribute to it - you could upsell for multiple copies shipped. And more if they go to diff addresses. I can think of a lot of dynamics where this makes sense.

@GKedzierski @ZyMazza this is a no brainer. will code it up soon + have the agent text users about the capability :). it's just a few prompts away...

i can finally remove this idea from my notes

haha, i gotchu :)

I would be receiving the equivalent of a war and peace twice a week.

let me bulk import my existing bookmarks then filter the interesting ones for me and i’m in

i gotchu sloms - this is the most requested feature by far so i'll build this asap

curious how you’re handling paywalled content. e.g. if i save an article from a publication i don’t personally subscribe to, but offprint has access to it, can you legally print and send me the full article?

i cannot

so for paywalled stuff, does the user have to authenticate/connect each publication they subscribe to? or is paywalled content just unsupported?

(i would answer these questions myself if i could but i see the offprint agent is under a lot of stress right now!)

fair, and tysm for understanding! so if you are indeed a subscriber, offprint can capture that fine - you'll just need an ios shortcut that you'll be given by the agent

i see! excited to get my first offprint in the mail

omg u're so kind tysm! i'll always be a dm away in case you need any support :)

love

and i love u <3

This is dope. My save for later folder is a graveyard and everyone I know has the same one. Turning that pile into a physical magazine you actually finish is such a simple flip of the direction everyone else is going. More founders should be building online to offline.

yessir! i gotchu

Let’s goooo love it

hahahahaha u know it!

its time to read @sharifshameem

@sharifshameem read up boysss!

yessssss!

don't have that billy yet...

I've dreamed of this. Wow. Bravo.

ty julian! the universe was asking for this idea to be materialized :)

Crazy this has never been done Sick

Built in Miami 🌴 Looks awesome

@dabit3 crazy cause exists already lol but for the web

there are so many cool substack articles, paul graham essays, lesswrong pages and other internet-only things I would love to get printed and sent to my home. This is a great place to start, I truly wonder how far you guys can take this idea!

I have no doubt people will be collecting @Devon_Eriksen_ tweets in here, how do I ensure that each one comes with an exhortation that they read his un-put-downable character-driven hard scifi Theft of Fire: Orbital Space #1?

Absolutely killer concept.

This is brilliant. The internet made saving effortless, but quietly turned “I’ll read this later” into a graveyard. Offprint brings back the friction that makes attention real: fewer tabs, fewer distractions, and something physical you can return to. Print media didn’t disappear. It was waiting for a better reason to exist.

Saved for later.

haha omg

sooo good! maybe i can finally read everything ive been bookmarking on twitter 😅

genuinely went down this rabbit hole a little while ago. SO awesome to see how you built it! Can you charge for, print, and ship other's content without their approval?

i went down the legal rabbithole not too long ago! we're in the clear good sir 🫡

Can @offlineventures make a branded version of this and be your first enterprise customer? Seems...fitting.

@offlineventures yeah ofc! send me a dm and i'll get back to you asap

Amazing Danny congrats!!! Now it just needs to connect to sublime via API and print my read later collection

yay thanks sari! i like this idea v much and it's only rly one prompt away haha :)

el mejor dia de mi vida

How do you license the written content for this?

This is what is going to get people back into reading instead of scrolling.

That's BS. 1. If I want to read my articles, I don't want to wait a week. 2. Offprint magazines will be cluttering my house. 3. Why can't I read my bookmarks? If I don't, why would I read a paper magazine?

:'(

@nbalba “I dont like the idea so it must be bad!” It’s a great idea and far more likely that people read old and long stuff like this than on the phone. Also pretty neat to have a magazine/book experience with the stuff you saved

@nbalba you got it

Jajajajajajajajajaja este pana está pa la joda pa @Massimokris pura psyche

@Massimokris jajajaja tq pa
