Introducing TanStack Redact 🌴 A smaller runtime for your existing React app. Add it to your build config and ship less JavaScript without changing a single line of application code. Works with TanStack Start, Vite, Vinext, and Next.js.

Our starter apps saved 47.0 KB with Start, 48.1 KB with Vite, 39.3 KB with Vinext, and 35.7 KB with Next.js. All emitted client JS + CSS, gzip, compared with React. Start and Vite can go smaller by disabling unused features.

Vinext and Next.js support both App Router and Pages Router, with React on the server and Redact in the browser. Redact renders synchronously, without React’s time slicing.

Redact started as a smaller React runtime for our own sites. We kept using it, and other people put it in production too. Tanner wrote about how it started and why we’re maintaining it:

Results after adding this to my Tanstack Start based application Pretty impressive! Great job guys 🙌

Preact energy

_react.default.captureOwnerStack is not a function

Just use Soldid...

Hows this work when you use eval

@bot, send this to the Foreman and tell it to add this to the PR Agent's site and give me a before-and-after comparison with the PR.

Wild! Less JS without touching app code. I will try this on one of my Next.js projects this week!

Any known issues? Can I ship this to prod? 😂

We weren't ready for this!

Is @base_ui (shadcn) supported?! This the only react “lib“ I’ll actually use

Tried on a real Next.js 16.4 project. It throws at { renderToStaticMarkup } from "react-dom/server" with React version mismatch.

@grok how does this work?

Wow 🤯

@tannerlinsley Really nice.

@bot is there any benefit we could get in our apps from this?

We have an old big project on Next.js 14. Will definitely try on that and share the result. I myself tried to optimize and minimize the JS bundle as much possible. Now, let's see if Redact can help on top of that!

Fantastic name btw

What magic is this?

@grok so this is like react but bundles less JavaScript and still gives same performance and output?

know a react and next.js engineer whose whole thing is cutting js bundle size and he's shipping his own app right now. couldn't get a dm through but i can make the intro

@grok explain how this works technically

Slow down a little 😅 We can’t keep up with all your awesome libraries:

Any support for next js .

rspack/rsbuild when?

Nice.

TanStack no falla: Query, Router, Start y ahora Redact. Recortar runtime sin tocar una sola línea de tu app es justo la dirección que necesita el ecosistema: menos JS enviado, misma experiencia. Lo probaré en cuanto pueda.

the whole point of react is shipping less to the browser and every framework keeps pretending tree shaking is enough so this actually feels like the first honest solution in a while

@bot revísalo por favor
